Remember back in the day when taking a selfie meant turning your phone around and shooting blindly towards your face? Front-facing cameras didn’t become the norm on smartphones until the iPhone 4 in 2010, but there were millions of semi-terrible photos floating around before that (at least we were probably looking at the lens instead of the screen).
A company called Selfix has now come out with a way to more efficiently take photos from the back of your phone, using the cameras that were actually designed for quality photography.

A New Contender From Dockcase
Why should we settle for an 18-megapixel front camera when there are three 48-megapixel powerhouses sitting on the back? The answer is simple — we shouldn’t. Selfix, a new brand from Dockcase, launched specifically to solve this problem that’s been nagging iPhone users for years.

The Rear-Screen Revolution
The centerpiece here is a 1.6-inch circular AMOLED touchscreen built right into the back of the case. With 480 x 480 pixel resolution, it connects via USB-C and uses DisplayPort Alt Mode to function as a live viewfinder. To take photos or videos, you’re now using the iPhone 17 Pro’s (or Pro Max) superior rear camera system, boasting 48MP resolution, larger sensors, better low-light performance, and the ability to switch between ultra-wide and telephoto lenses.
There’s also a dedicated button to power the screen on and off for battery preservation, and Dockcase promises a lag-free experience that requires no additional apps. You basically just slip the phone into the case and start shooting.

Storage Gets Serious
Beyond the screen, Selfix hides a microSD card slot inside the case, albiet it’s accessible only when the iPhone is removed. However, this lets you expand storage up to 2TB through the USB-C connection, sidestepping Apple’s notoriously expensive storage upgrade tiers. A 512GB microSD card runs around $50 versus Apple’s $200 storage bump, which is a compelling argument for anyone who shoots a lot of video.
