DJI released its Mini SE drone a couple of years ago, so it was only a matter of time until the brand gave it a noteworthy upgrade. And while it operates as one of (if not) the best starter drones on the market, the tech company just delivered a user-friendlier option upon revealing the Mini 2 SE.

Retaining the exact small-scale dimensions and sense of portability as its predecessor, the revamped edition weighs under 249g and is easy to stow for your next adventure. That said, DJI tacks on several technical upgrades across the board, most notably a bolstered distance range. The new model boasts a 32-minute long total flight time and up to 10km worth of HD video transmission, a steady improvement compared to the original’s 30-minute flight time and 4km distance. This advancement is thanks to the Chinese manufacturer’s enhanced OcySync 2.0 tech, which appears on the brand’s standard Mini 2 model, priced at about $80 more than the new release.

Moreover, the Mini 2 SE practically serves as a lesser version of the brand’s Mini 2 when accounting for the latter’s 4K recording capabilities — the SE maxes out at 2.7K video quality. Nevertheless, the new model intends to operate as a world-class starter option for those looking to get in on the world of drones without overspending on the market’s more extravagant models.

In layman’s terms, If you can barely tell the difference between 2.7K and 4K and are looking to buy your first legitimately good drone, the Mini 2 SE was essentially made for you. DJI’s latest gadget is available through authorized dealers today, starting from AUD $599 (~$418).
