In the realm of high-end home audio speakers, few brands are as respected as Bowers & Wilkins. The England-based firm not only provides some of the best-sounding tech available regardless of price, but it presents each of its speakers in indelible design-centric housing. Launched in 2007 as a speaker dock for the iPod, the Zeppelin was finally given some new smart features for the streaming age a few years back. And now, the audio brand has unveiled a special edition version to help honor the 60th anniversary of McLaren Automotive.
Limited to just 60 units (one for each year), the Zeppelin McLaren 60th Anniversary Edition speaker is instantly recognizable with its Galvanic Grey and Papaya Orange colorway, inspired by the auto brand’s racing liveries. The unit’s base also features the Speedy Kiwi logo, which was McLaren’s first crest introduced in 1964. On the technical side of things, there are a few new features here as well, including upgraded multi-room connectivity with the addition of Amazon Music and Pandora streaming via the Bowers & Wilkins phone app. Previously, the wireless speaker could only handle AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and AptX Adaptive via Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Alexa capability. Powered by 240W of amplification, the large subwoofer is supplemented by left and right speaker assemblies, boasting reference-quality drive unit tech to fill the room with the exact sound quality you desire.
This is not Bowers & Wilkins’ first collaboration with McLaren, whose R&D labs are a mere 30 miles apart. Since 2015, the brand has supplied the audio systems inside the British marque’s luxury supercars. And then a few months back there was a special-edition version of the Px8 headphones.
To be one of the lucky 60 people to own this Zeppelin McLaren 60th Anniversary Edition speaker, you can head over to Bowers & Wilkins’ website now, where it’s still available for $899.
