Bang & Olufsen’s Beosystem 72-22 Is an Homage to Its Timeless Archives

In all sincerity, very few audio manufacturers can be mentioned in the same breath as Bang & Olufsen, as the Danish company has been setting a ridiculously high standard for nearly 100 years. In efforts to shine a light on one of its more beloved creation’s 50th anniversaries, the iconic Beogram 4000 Series turntable is receiving B&O’s “Recreated Classics” treatment, now being reimagined and bolstered for the modern day.

Upon hitting the scene in 1972, designer Jacob Jensen sought to “rethink the turntable to achieve a better-performing product that would stand the test of time” with the Beogram 4000, which is ultimately what inspired the reveal of the new Beosystem 72-22. Looking to showcase its robust craftsmanship, B&O hand-customized each of these limited units in both pearl-blasted titanium tone aluminum and solid walnut wood. Presentation aside, the Beolab 18 stereo speakers that come equipped with this package are intended to bolster the Beosystem 72-22, while the Beoremote Halo remote control paves the way for seamless functionality without forcing listeners to use a smartphone. As a bonus, its walnut wood presentation case equally serves as a turntable stand, remote charging station, and wireless connectivity hub.

Making the most of this nostalgic piece of equipment, B&O is even including a quartet of quintessential records from 1972, including David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The label’s Recreated Classics Initiative has served as an impressive form of rehashing classic pieces from its lengthy portfolio, having begun with the Beogram 4000c turntable back in 2020, proving to be an enviously fashionable form of paying tribute to one’s self.

While it’s limited to a mere 30 units, Bang & Olufsen’s homage to its design-centric turntable is one of the sleekest ones we’ve seen this year, and it’s safe to assume that its sonic prowess levels up to its looks. The powerful new release is only available at the brand’s retailers, but you can take a deeper look at the Beosystem 72-22 on B&O’s site.
