Back in June, Apple unveiled a plethora of new software updates for its upcoming range of smartwatches, phones, and earbuds. Today, the Silicon Valley juggernaut has finally debuted those components at its livestreamed event. So you can get ready to upgrade and trad-in your devices, we’ve compiled a guide to everything you need to know about what’s coming out.
Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE
Apple has unveiled a trio of smartwatches, including the latest generation of its standard iteration in the Series 8. By adding a variety of elements to the new Apple Watch, the device has practically become a lifesaver. These include temperature tracking, detailed sleep insights, and a crash detection feature enabled by a high g-force accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope, so it calls for help as soon as possible. Above all else, Apple has not raised the price on its best-selling technical timepiece, as this new release will retail starting from $399 for the GPS model. The newest iteration of Apple’s entry-level SE smartwatch also features this crash-detecting tech and is powered by an enhanced dual-core processor.
Apple Watch Ultra
In addition to the revamped flagship, the tech giant showed off the Apple Watch Ultra, a titanium-crafted, 49mm sport watch boasting an entirely new design and state-of-the-art capabilities. With a whopping battery life of 36 hours during standard use and a maximum of 60 when operating on low power mode, Apple’s latest addition to its popular line of smartwatches has the best battery life to date.
Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are two sides of the same coin. At 6.7”, the Plus is slightly taller than the base model (6.1”), but both benefit from a plethora of new features, including improved 12MP camera with enhanced low-light photos, Emergency SOS satellite messaging, and increased battery life — during video playback, the standard iPhone can last up to 20 hours, while the Plus gives you a whopping 26 hours. Priced at $799 and $899 before trade-in, respectively, these will both be available to pre-order on September 9.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max
Along with the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, made for users who want some extra bells and whistles. Aside from the first-ever 48MP camera, the models each come with new features such as an always-on display, a super bright screen, and the new Dynamic Island, which offers more integration and interaction between your apps, while allowing for a more convenient and less disruptive way for you to get your push notifications. The screen sizes of the two models are the same 6.1” and 6.7” as the standard and Plus versions. Available for pre-order on September 9, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max start at $999 and $1,099 before trade-in, respectively.
AirPods Pro 2nd Generation
Approximately three years after debuting its original AirPods Pro earbuds, Apple has now debuted a new and improved second-gen version that boasts a slew of new cutting-edge tech. On top of markedly better sound quality, this second-gen pair of earbuds now come loaded with dynamic head tracking, seamless switching between devices, an adaptive EQ, and Personalized Spatial Audio that creates a custom profile based on your head’s geometry using an iPhone’s TrueDepth camera. IPX4-rated and now equipped with an integrated lanyard loop, the 2nd-gen AirPods Pro’s MagSafe-compatible wireless charging case features up to 30 hours of collective battery life with active noise cancelation enabled, a built-in speaker for audio alerts, and Apple’s U1 chip, allowing for Find My GPS finding capabilities.
