First launched in 2002, the Y-3 label rose out of a partnership between adidas and legendary Japanese fashion and streetwear designer Yohji Yamamoto, with the two aiming to seamlessly merge the worlds of sports and fashion — far before the practice was commonplace. In the nearly two decades since the brand’s inception, Y-3 has routinely collaborated with the German activewear brand on a slew of capsule collections, though (for the first time ever) adidas is tasking Y-3 with developing a new capsule-based on its outdoor-focused TERREX range.
Looking to combine Yohji Yamamoto’s signature streetwear aesthetic with the rugged and high-performance qualities of the TERREX lineup, the Y-3 x TERREX Capsule Collection is comprised of a trio of new items. This includes the Y-3 RUGGED GTX JACKET, which features a GORE-TEX 100% recycled nylon plain weave construction and comes decorated in a series of Y-3, Terrex, and GORE-TEX silicone badges. The collection also features the Y-3 MELTON GTX DOWN PARKA, a more loose-fitting goose-down jacket with a GORE-TEX Melton wool and nylon shell that sports the same silicone branding. Both jackets also boast zipper-secured side pockets that can open to reveal pocket bags that are anchored to internal webbing tape. The featured item in the new capsule is the Y-3 TERREX SWIFT R3 GTX shoe, a hybrid sneaker boot equipped with a waterproof GORE-TEX lining and membrane, Continental rubber outsoles, and a multi-purpose lace and zip closure system that shrouds an underlying neoprene gusset. The sneaker boot will also be offered in either vintage white, black, and bold orange or black and bold orange colorways.
