From Clarks to Vans, Todd Snyder has almost exclusively made sneakers in tandem with other brands. And now it’s teaming up with its most frequented collaborator, New Balance, on its first iteration of the running-turned-lifestyle 574 model.
Outdoorsy, Only Kinda
While the 574 has become a favorite of urban streetwear for a couple of decades and come to symbolize New Balance as a brand, it’s never been considered an “outdoors” shoe. To be clear, it’s still not. However, the two new colorways coming to the scene will surely make you think about lacing these up before heading into the woods.
Available in both Pine and Parchment, the Todd Snyder x New Balance 574 is inspired by New York’s Flower District, particularly during the holiday season. But the Pine variant in particular lends itself to a sort of woodsiness, perhaps unintentionally; these sneakers are very much into the urban foliage and department store vibe.
The product page even states, “The ‘Pine’ colorway is a deep evergreen, reminiscent of lush holiday foliage and freshly trimmed branches. While the ‘Parchment’ colorway is a soft brown tone with a matte finish, evoking the parchment paper used to wrap trimmings.”
Changing It Up
While the 574 dates back to the late ‘80s, it should be noted that this Pine & Parchment pack is based on the Legacy edition of the model that debuted a couple of years back, which essentially beefs up the outsole to make it a little more outdoor-friendly.
For the current editions, the eponymous designer puts his own spin on the silhouette with upscaled premium leather for the uppers with hairy suede on certain sections and a hairy suede “N” emblem on the sides. On the other hand, the sneakers are still built for comfort with the EVA foam cushioning underfoot, the ENCAP midsole, and the polyurethane rim for support. The outsoles on the Pine are a matching green, while the ones on the Parchment are black.
