In today’s style sphere, quiet luxury is much sought-after. But decking yourself out from head to toe in high-end, premium pieces won’t be achievable for everyone. For our money, we love to go with Shoes Like Pottery, who elevates classic footwear staples just enough that you’ll be in IYKYK territory without draining your bank account. Our favorite silhouette from the Japanese shoemaker is the SLP01 JP High Top Canvas Sneaker, which goes for a minimalist style and unbelievably meticulous craftsmanship.

Operating out of a small factory in Kurume since 1873, Shoes Like Pottery has been practicing the same construction methods for over 150 years. And until now, they weren’t available here in the U.S. Looking like a piece of fine art more than your everyday canvas high-tops, the SLP01 JP is made entirely by hand using textured cotton canvas uppers that are cut and sewn before getting cemented vulcanize rubber soles with rubber adhesive. After this, the two sections are kiln-fired together for 70 minutes at 248ºF. The process is called ka-ryu and yields incredibly durable and flexible sneakers, along with ensuring that each shoe is one-of-a-kind.

While other luxury houses get by on their name alone, Shoes Like Pottery works tirelessly to combine both form and function. Available with black or white retro-style uppers, the white rubber soles feature a subtle blue-colored elastic foxing tap that’s stamped with the SLP seal on the heel, matching the blue outsole underneath. Standard laces tie the shoes together for a classic look and feel. You can easily pair these with jeans and shorts, but the minimalist look of the high-tops also allow them to be worn in slightly less casual situations as well.

The Shoes Like Pottery SLP01 JP High Top Canvas Sneaker is available now from Huckberry’s website for $173.
