RIMOWA’s instantly recognizable grooved aluminum suitcases have been a sign of luxury for well over a century, and the German label continues to set the standard for premium luggage. Given this long history, RIMOWA has plenty of old-school designs to pull from that capture nostalgia, but that doesn’t stop them from collaborating with contemporaries like Moncler, and even streetwear outlets like BAPE. But RIMOWA is looking to the past this time around, specifically the 1960s, for the textured Hammerschlag Collection.
Kicking off the collection, we have the Hammerschlag Cabin, a 31L carry-on boasting a twill interior accented by cognac leather, featuring a dual-organization design boasting vintage hooks with compression straps. The leather grab handles on top and on the side are inspired by the original 1966 Hand-Carry Case, and the telescopic handle was crafted to provide a seamless handle for easy height adjustments and an ergonomic grip, featuring a leather insert underneath for some added comfort. Of course, you’re getting RIMOWA’s proprietary Multiwheel System on the bottom for stable steering, and TSA-approved locks to ensure the case isn’t damaged while being checked.
Next up, the Hammerschlag Hand-Carry Case features the same textured aluminum and gives you 18L of storage, complete with a matching dual-organization interior and a single leather handle. Both the Cabin and Hand-Carry Case are part of a limited edition run and numbered 001/1898 to 1898/1898 and 001/966 to 966/966, respectively, on a cognac leather patch and luggage tag to denote the model you receive.
The RIMOWA Hammerschlag Cabin and Hand-Carry Case will both drop on March 28th, with the Hammerschlag Cabin limited to 1,898 pieces (honoring the year RIMOWA was founded in Cologne) going for $2,850, and the Hammerschlag Hand-Carry Case limited to 966 pieces (honoring the year the OG Hand-Carry Case first dropped) going for $2,360.
