In case you were wondering, running shoes can definitely be used as your daily drivers. Not only are they built for comfort and endurance but these days, it’s more than easy to find runners that don’t, well, look like runners.
With so many people transposing their trainers to everyday sneakers, On has decided to revise one of its most popular models so you can go from running to running errands without swapping your footwear.

Swiss Roots, Street Ambitions
These aren’t the first running-lifestyle hybrids on the market, but the main difference is that On Running didn’t build its reputation on lifestyle shoes. The Swiss brand came up through the performance-running world, obsessing over road feel and efficiency before athleisure enthusiasts caught on. The Cloudswift, which debuted in 2019 as On’s first shoe built around its proprietary Helion super foam, was squarely a city-pavement performance runner. It earned its place in the lineup by threading the needle between lightweight trainers and bulky cushion monsters. They’re kinda the perfect candidate for this new hybrid direction for the brand.

Amp’d Up
At around 11.5ozs with an 8mm heel-to-toe drop, the Cloudswift Amp keeps the bones of the original but recalibrates nearly everything around lifestyle wear. Most notably, the midsole goes from single- to dual-density Helion foam, stacking up higher for a more plush ride. Underneath that sits an injected nylon-blend Speedboard, the same propulsive plate technology On employs across its performance range, but now tuned for all-day endurance rather than pure speed.

The upper gets a structural overhaul too. Gone is the original’s sock-like, streamlined mesh in favor of a more constructed cage build that looks and feels more like an actual sneaker. The signature CloudTec unit and rubber outsole also balance form and function, with the former a bit more aggressive and style-forward. On’s shoes have always been rather stylish, but this one leans into the aesthetic a bit more. They’re arguably the best-looking shoes the brand has ever made.

Four colorways are available upon launch, with all-black and all-white covering more versatile looks. However, our personal favorite might be the Glacier/Apollo variant with its more expressive color scheme.
