Now a ubiquitous presence in the sneakerverse, Nike’s Air Max was once considered unconventional, believe it or not. The first shoe to reveal its cushioning inside — in this case, the brand’s now-legendary Air tech — the Tinker Hatfield-designed shoe debuted in 1987 to critical acclaim. However, amidst its array of variants and updates, it’s never really been considered a subtle silhouette. That’s never been more true with models like the Vapormax, which features an entire sole made of Air units, or the futuristic Dn that debuted last year. But with its latest model, the Air Max Bia, Nike has crafted arguably its most understated model in the lineup thus far.

Still featuring the Max Air unit visible under the heel, the sleek and minimalist new Air Max Bia benefits from the pressurized nitrogen gas and delivers some serious bounce on your everyday travels, whether you’re going for a quick gym session or just heading to the grocery store. What separates these from past entries in the Air Max lineage is subtlety. Available in all-black or all-white, the Bia is still infused with thoughtful design points, such as the small blue or black Swoosh, respectively.

Constructed to be breathable yet durable, the textile upper also brings some dimensionality with its mesh-like texture. Likewise, the material underneath sports a meticulous design that starts with an angular shape below the quarter, widening upward towards the back of the foot, with slanted grooves that start from the heel counter and continue down to the sole. Underfoot, there’s a cushioned foam midsole, while a rubber Waffle outsole blends Nike’s long heritage with solid traction throughout your day. Continuing the monochromatic look, this outsole features a discreet “AIR MAX” imprint buried within the lugs.

Priced at just $90, the Air Max Bia is now available from Nike’s web store and retail locations.
