Nike started reissuing the Air Max 95 as early as 2001, but until recently, the Air pockets at the heel were noticeably smaller than the ones in Sergio Lozano’s original design. Now with the shoe’s 30th anniversary year well underway, Nike has gone all out with faithful iterations of the “Big Bubble” Air Max 95, and with plenty of inspired colorways to choose from, including the Black and Golden Beige variant you see here.

When you look at a pair of Air Max 95s today, it’s impressive how cutting-edge the sneaker still looks. Debuting in 1995, it didn’t just want to claim to be a supportive running shoe but aspired to show you its tech inside. The “Big Bubble” pockets at the heel and around the back of the shoe reinforced claims of cushioning, bolstered by smaller units at the forefoot. You could even see inside the midsole if you peered through the translucent window underneath the shoe.
The unique uppers were inspired by the way rain erodes away layers of the Earth to expose strata underneath, while the tech itself was inspiration from the human anatomy, and how all of our parts work together: the midsole and outsole were the spine, the speed laces were the ribs, and the layered mesh uppers were the muscle fibers. This was all about looks and less about branding, as showcased by the miniature Swoosh logo under the ankle.

For the Black and Golden Beige variant, the Air Max 95 takes the nature influence even further. Helping you fit in perfectly outdoors, the synthetic leather and mesh uppers get a neutral camo pattern with Old Moss and Cargo Khaki colors complementing the subtle orange and silver accents. Slight reflective detailing around the silhouette aids you with nighttime runs as well.

Dropping today from Nike’s website, the Air Max 95 Black and Golden Beige is priced at $200.
