Launched in 1989, Nike’s outdoor-focused ACG sub-label quickly grew into a cult favorite, blending wilderness-ready utility with style-forward designs. An acronym for “All Conditions Gear,” the line has evolved over the years and now includes hiking shoes, jackets, pants, socks, and everything in between. Inspired by and designed considering Central Oregon’s Smith Rock State Park, the “Smith Summit” Cargo Pants is built with a lightweight shell that combines nylon (96%) for durability and spandex (4%) for stretch and mobility. Nylon’s inherent water-resistant properties also help you stay dry in more unpredictable scenarios, but the nylon here (which is at least 75% recycled) gets supplemented with additional water-repellent finishing. In addition to the Cordura fabric at the knees for extra toughness, the woven fabric also boasts reinforced and shaped seams for more reliability when you do have to give an extra push on the trail.
For storing your gear, Nike has outfitted the trousers with not only your classic hand pockets and rear pocket but also a pair of zippered drop-in cargo pockets on the upper leg. There’s even an attached carabiner for hanging your keys or a flashlight. When your adventure really gets hot, the zippers at the knees allow you to convert the pants into shorts. Comfort and durability work together with the “Smith Summit,” which also features an elastic waistband fastened by a front fly with a hidden waistband snap button. For adjusting the fit, you have both a webbed belt with a quick-release G-hook buckle or the drawcords at the hem.
