New Balance and Carhartt W.I.P. Come Together for a Blue-Coated Capsule

There have been so many great New Balance collaborations through the past year that even we’ve begun to lose count, but its latest joint effort is tough to overlook. Upon coming together with Carhartt W.I.P., the Boston-bred performance brand has managed to make workwear look as casual as possible.

The capsule naturally consists of a handful of canvas jackets and sturdily-sewn essentials, but these garments are bystanders to the 990v1 that garners a sleek makeover. Carhartt W.I.P.’s stylish reimagining is highlighted by its upper, composed of mesh and hairy suede, then finished off with a woven tongue label and reflective accents for an eye-catching touch. While New Balance acknowledges that the silhouette is traditionally a running shoe, it’s clear that this pair aims for style.

The apparel in the collection takes inspiration from the idea of a collection of “humble neighborhood gyms found across America.” the primary color palette that coats this subtle collaboration consists of dark blue and gray shades, which are embellished with collegiate-inspired motifs. When it comes to footwear collabs, the streetwear-centric sub-label tends to stick to the classics — think Converse and Clarks — so it’s not a surprise to see W.I.P. coming together with an American-based brand that ages well over a century.

New Balance’s latest collaboration with Carhartt W.I.P. is slated to release on September 16 on each of their respective webshops.
