In case you haven’t noticed, vintage clothing is making a serious comeback. With the obvious shortcomings and compromised quality of fast fashion, it’s no wonder that people are looking to the past to find authentic, well-made clothes. Brands all over the fashion space are taking notice of this trend and capitalizing on it. Rather than trying to fabricate the pre-worn look, L.L.Bean is taking a unique approach to this thrift-inspired trend by reaching into their historical closet and reselling some of their classic garments with their first-ever online sale of vintage clothing, the Pre-Loved Collection.
Old-school apparel meets new-school sales tactics as the Pre-Loved Collection marks the first time the 109-year-old clothing staple has launched a vintage clothing collection as well as the first time that L.L.Bean has sourced and resold their vintage clothing. The Pre-Loved Collection consists of heavy outerwear, fleece, flannel, knitwear, anoraks, vests, and more, which hail as far back as 1960 up to today. L.L.Bean went took meticulous care in hand-picking every single item in the collection from antique fairs, flea markets, and thrift shops throughout the country over the past few years in order to ensure that each piece was unique and of the best quality. Taking their care one step further, the company partnered with Denver-based Tersus Solutions to refurbish all of the garments before retagging them as one of the curated pieces of the Pre-Loved Collection. Aside from breaking new ground by launching a foray into the vintage space, L.L.Bean is using the Pre-Loved Collection as a step to extend the lifecycle of their brand, which is a move that aligns itself with the ethos of the current sustainability-centric generations.
The L.L.Bean Pre-Loved Collection will launch in three different installations on October 13, 20, and 27. The sale is exclusively through L.L.Bean’s Instagram page on their stories.
