With the rising popularity of techwear, gorp-core, and outdoor gear in the fashion industry, some unlikely brands are getting new attention. With labels like Champion and Crocs collaborating with high-profile brands and celebrities, companies that were once relegated to sportswear are elevating their offerings and paying attention to what sticks. LL Bean, a fixture in American clothing and outdoor gear, is another traditionally tame brand, but it’s been struggling to receive the same love, Stateside at least. Overseas in Japan, the label has been capitalizing on the growing outdoor industry, and has cultivated a dedicated audience that sees the potential in LL Bean’s apparel. Now, the brand has seen fit to expand the LL Bean Japan Edition lineup, a collection of retro outdoor-friendly gear that includes fleeces, jackets, moccasins, and more, all designed by the label’s Japanese team.

Starting us off, we have a quarter-length fleece with a loose fit, a boxy silhouette inspired by the ‘90s, and a super soft fabric with a fine thread count. The Fairfield Jacket is a packable puffer based on another ‘90s jacket, and it’s made with PRIMALOFT LUXE, ultra-fine ripstop nylon, and plenty of storage for extra gear. If you’re just looking to hang out, however, the Bean has you covered with the Union Katahdin Long-Sleeve T-Shirt, which comes in three subtle colors, and makes for a soft and versatile layer if you decide to get active. LL Beans Camp Mocs have been a staple for the brand, and now you can grab this pair that’s been designed in Japan.

Although this gear is designed in Japan with the country in mind (and only available via Japanese websites), you can still grab some apparel to enjoy Stateside through the Japanese sites.

This gear from LL Bean’s Japan Edition collection is coming to LL Bean’s Japan website and BEAMS’ website this October.
