HOKA is having one heck of a year in 2023. From GORE-TEX-lined versions of its Speedgoat 5 to a new Cordura-built Transport walking shoe to its high-profile collaborations with Satisfy and Cotopaxi, the French footwear giant has proven that it’s not slowing down any time soon. Still dominating the shoe world, HOKA is one of the most ubiquitous names out there, be it with hikers, runners, or commuters. And adding fresh silhouettes only extends its reach even further. A couple of months ago, the brand teased its new slip-on mules, which finally dropped this week.
Joining the likes of the laceless Restore TC slip-ons from earlier this year, the Ora Primo mules add something else to HOKA’s arsenal while also showing how far into the future the brand is willing to go. Decidedly cutting edge in looks compared to its other silhouettes, these shoes are made with lots of waves, from the ultra-thick laces to the midsole and upper design — there’s even zig-zag stitching down the front. These are simply unlike any HOKAs we’ve ever seen, and it’s not even close.
As good as they look, the Ora Primo is built for function first and foremost. Intended for post-run recovery and restoration, the slip-on shoes feature a puffy upper with quilted insulated for warmth retention and a knit collar for added security. The rubber outsole is made with 30% recycled material and the front of the shoe is equipped with a protective toe bumper. While many mules come sans laces entirely, the Ora Primo features an elastic lacing system, which, we’re guessing, helps compress your feet to reduce swelling and improve and maintain blood flow. However, these mules look so good that we’re likely to see them worn as lifestyle shoes as well.
Available in Black or Forest Floor colorways, the Ora Primo is currently for sale from HOKA’s website for $120.
