BLACK Comme des Garçons is exactly what it sounds like: a brooding take on streetwear-adjacent pieces that are primarily composed of two colors, black and white. While the Japanese sub-brand’s garments tend to garner enough press as it is, a new release is getting sneakerheads riled up for all the right reasons. CDG BLACK has put its monochromatic take on the Nike Eagle, a sneaker that hasn’t seen the light of the day since the ‘80s.
Upon its original release, the Nike Eagle was the famed performance giant‘s lightest shoe to date and is now receiving a high-fashion makeover while maintaining its classic easy-going weight. BLACK’s blacked-out take on the nostalgic running shoe features handsome suede overlays, a smooth leather swoosh, and CDG branding at the heel and insole. Barring these luxurious touch-ups, the shoe retains its athletic integrity with a synthetic upper and cushy foam sole.
By digging deep into its sneaker archives time and time again, Nike bringing this classic out of the woodwork for the first time in over four decades is sure to excite fans of the brand and its pre-Air Max running catalog. It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time that these two major labels have partnered up, as they’ve delivered on several collaborative capsules over the past three years.
While these don’t boast the runway-appropriate flair we’re used to seeing from CDG, they are still a stylish re-hashing. You can cop a pair of the BLACK Comme des Garçons x Nike Eagle on Dover Street Market for $265.
