The perfect fragrance can transport you back to a time and place, even if you don’t realize it. With each of its scents, New York-based Bond No. 9 takes you on a tour of New York, from Uptown to the Hamptons. Now, tapping into the luxurious aromas found in one of New York’s most exclusive enclaves and the birth of black-tie culture, Tuxedo Park, the brand aims to capture its essence with this namesake fragrance.

Tuxedo Park’s Origins
At one point in time, Tuxedo Park was a symbol of New York aristocracy. Born out of the Gilded Age, the gated community north of Manhattan was seen by few but has sustained in legend as a place only touched by high society. Despite the seclusion, Tuxedo Park’s influence spread to the outside world. Founder Pierre Lorillard IV’s son was among the first to popularize the short tailless dress coat (now called the tuxedo) at the annual Autumn Ball, and its behaviors and customs were the basis for Emily Post’s famed Etiquette guide in 1922. Nevertheless, Tuxedo Park still exists today as a safe haven for quiet wealth, but its Gilded Age heyday is still romanticized in our heads as a paradigm of success in the 19th century.

Bond No. 9’s Tuxedo Park
Like all fragrances from Bond No. 9, this one is composed “like a skyline,” layer by layer. It opens crisp and citrus-forward up front before settling into a smooth, woody finish built for evenings and elevated occasions.
Imagine walking alongside Tuxedo Lake, smelling the sugar maple or white oak trees overhead. Or having supper at the Tuxedo Club, where local residents like Mark Twain or Oscar Wilde sat across the room chatting about the upcoming Autumn Ball. This spirit has been imbued by Bond No. 9 into this fragrance.
At the top end, you get yuzu, white grapefruit, tangerine, Persian lime, and orange bigarade oil, nailing the more floral aspect of the gated community. It then gives way to petitgrain, pink pepper, and jasmine sambac heart notes underneath. Then, at the base, you’ll experience a solar oud accord that evokes the champagne popping of the Autumn Ball, joined with saffiano, musks, and amber recalling the forest-filled milieu of Tuxedo Park.
Elevating the experience even further, the ensemble is packaged in a beautiful clear, green glass bottle reminiscent of the botanical-inspired liquid inside. On the outside, a gilded Bond No. 9 logo has been imprinted in gold.
