After two successful runs with their braided London collaboration, Kith and Birkenstock are shifting focus to the German footwear giant’s most beloved silhouette. Today, the Boston clog has become somewhat of a fashion statement, even enjoying a renaissance a couple years back here in LA. Part of Birkenstock’s 1774 sub-label, the new Braided Boston arrives just as the iconic clog approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, offering a premium take on a design that’s been quietly dominating closets since 1976.
Artisan-Level Construction
The marquee feature on the Kith collab is the hand-braided detailing that wraps around the entire upper. Each pair is individually crafted by artisans, creating intricate patterns that elevate the Boston beyond its utilitarian roots. Better yet, the handcrafted approach means subtle variations between pairs, particularly noticeable in the White colorway’s rainbow underlay threading.
Material Upgrades
Premium cow suede replaces the standard leather upper, providing a softer hand feel and richer color saturation across all three colorways. Keeping Birkenstock’s 150-year-old formula, the signature cork-latex footbed remains untouched and is paired with their standard EVA outsole for lightweight durability.
Kith’s script branding appears debossed on the adjustable strap, pairing well with Birkenstock’s iconic buckle hardware. The collaboration packaging includes exclusive co-branded boxes, adding collector appeal as well.
Colorway Considerations
Mocca offers the safest entry point with its rich brown suede that’s incredibly versatile. Taupe splits the difference with more assertive beige tones. Meanwhile, the White version commands attention with its rainbow-threaded braiding that serves as a nice conversation starter. Rather than obvious color blocking, the multicolored threads weave subtly through the white base so that they’re understated from a distance.
