Although silicone wedding rings are still a relatively new concept, they’ve seen an incredible rise in popularity since their introduction. Once limited to use amongst first responders, construction workers, and other active professionals, now it’s nearly impossible to go a day without seeing one — be it at the gym, the trail, or even the office. Because let’s face it: Traditional metal bands make for a timeless piece of jewelry, but they’re not exactly suited to the daily rigors of an active lifestyle. With the risk of them being lost, damaged, or injurious to you, it’s a wonder that more people haven’t made the switch. Having scoured the market for the best these non-metal alternatives have to offer, we’ve come up with solid performers suited to a range of price points and tested our favorites.

How We Tested

With a growing user base for silicone rings comes a market flooded with options, each boasting unique features as well as supposedly unmatched comfort. And with countless copycats for every contender, it can be difficult to determine a good deal from one that’s too good to be true. All that is to say, for such a simple piece of gear, you’d be surprised how challenging it can be to find a silicone ring for your needs. Having scoured the market for the best these non-metal alternatives have to offer, we’ve come up with solid performers taking into account visual aesthetic and style, width, price, and features such as interior draining channels.

Of course, online photos can’t compare to hands-on experience. We sourced each ring for testing and spent a considerable amount of time with it, taking into consideration fit, comfort, actual appearance, and things like stickiness and feeling between fingers. We also got each one wet to see how it felt afterwards and how quickly it drained.

Tester: I, Ethan Brehm, am a size 10 in metal rings, and all of the options below are this size as well. I’m a guy who wears his white gold wedding ring all the time. As such, I know what a standard fit should feel like on a ring, which is what I considered when testing the silicone options below.

What to Look For

Comfort: One of the main benefits of silicone is that it offers a much more comfortable option compared to traditional metal. In everything from athletic pursuits to professional applications, it’s in your best interest to give one of these rings a shot. They don’t catch or slip, and they’re also much more accommodating of your fingers. Made from flexible materials and featuring temperature-regulating designs, you can kiss the days of sweaty and swollen fingers goodbye.

Safety: One of the most compelling reasons to wear a silicone wedding ring is to protect your fingers during potentially dangerous activities. Whether you’re an auto mechanic tearing down an engine or even just a DIYer who plays with power tools, it’s never a good idea to mix rings and heavy machinery. What’s more, frequent gym-going also puts your digits in danger, with the risk of weights, kettlebells, or ropes going awry. In contrast, silicone rings are designed to break under load, so while you might lose your band, you’ll save your finger in the process. Oh, and if you’re not familiar with the term ‘ring avulsion’, give it a quick Google search — it’ll convince you otherwise if you’re doubting the safety benefits of silicone rings.

Protection: Constant wearing of your wedding band subjects it to all kinds of abuse, even despite your best intentions. From errant knocks passing furniture to adventure-earned badges of honor, it’s inevitable that your ring will come to show its age. In order to keep it looking its best, a silicone wedding ring makes for a good occasional alternative. And let’s be honest — while you could take it off, a lost ring poses an even worse outcome.

Replaceability: Ultimately, silicone wedding rings are a good buy solely for the fact that they’re replaceable. While most metal bands will cost several thousand dollars, silicone rings offer a considerably less expensive alternative. Great for remote backpacking trips into parts unknown or even just a trip down to the local trail, silicone rings make for much less of a disappointment should they go missing. If you’re the type to lead an active lifestyle, it’s worth the added peace of mind.

ThunderFit Silicone Rings

Photo: HICONSUMPTION
Pros
  • Lots of color and style options
  • Comes in half sizes
  • Sizes go up to 16
  • Easy to purchase multi-packs
  • Doesn’t spin a ton
Cons
  • Bulky and heavy
  • Rides up
  • Better for people with wider knuckles

Best Budget Ring: Cheap, simple, and well-reviewed, ThunderFit rings offer a great option for the guy who doesn’t care about brand names or bells and whistles; he just wants a solid ring to get the job done. Made of 100% durable silicone rubber, these stretch to fit around swollen fingers or over large knuckles. Available as singles, packs of four, and sets of seven, they come in a variety of colors and finishes to suit your tastes. Notably, ThunderFit also comes in the best size options, with half sizes available and all the way up to 16, whereas most brands cap out around 14.

The Good

Silicone wedding rings, in general, aren’t expensive purchases. You can usually buy a pack of several for well under $50. However, ThunderFit’s claim to fame is just how affordable it is, and without sacrificing much in the way of quality; these still look really great. While one ring will run you only $10, you can easily get packs of four or seven for less than $20, which is quite impressive. However, for this deal, you’ll have to head to Amazon where you’ll really maximize your discount, albeit you won’t get as many colorway options. ThunderFits come in simple, classy options like the black one we tested here, or a variety of textures and patterns like camo or the American flag. And like we mentioned, the half-sizes are a game-changer here, especially if you know your size well.

Now, when talking about how well these rings feel, I liked the little amount of rotational movement, even despite the wider profile. For better or worse, silicone rings do give you a little bit of flexibility when sizing them due to their stretchy nature, and that certainly seems to be the case here. The size 10 worked very well, and although it was technically a bit loose, it didn’t spin around a lot.

The Not so Good

A major note I had with the ThunderFit is just how darn wide it is. At 10mm, this ring fits well enough around my finger but just got in the way too much for me in terms of height. It kept riding up towards my knuckle, as though I didn’t have enough room between my fingers for it. While the ThunderFit is bulkier and heavier than your average silicone ring, it might be a better option for those with thicker knuckles, which I do not have.

Another thing I noticed is how much lint gets accumulated on the ring itself, which can be an issue for silicone rings in general –– especially the darker colors where it’s more noticeable –– but this one felt even more excessive than usual. Likewise, the indent on the sides of the rings collect dirt there as well. Also, there are grooves cut out underneath for air flow but they felt a bit inconsequential since they’re too small. Nevertheless, the ring didn’t notably percipitate any sweat or retain moisture.

Thunderfit F 11 24 4

Verdict: A great option for those looking to save some money, the ThunderFit also has some other benefits, including a plethora of color and style options. Plus, you can save a bunch of money with multi-packs available. Likewise, we loved how you could buy half-sizes here, and all the way up to 16, unlike other rings. Admittedly, the band is a bit wide and rides up, which can be a problem for those who don’t have large knuckles. But larger-handed individuals shouldn’t find any issues here.

SafeRingz Metallic Silicone Wedding Ring

Saferingz F 11 24 1
Photo: HICONSUMPTION
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Looks and feels the most like a metal ring
  • Won’t slide around on your finger
  • Three width options
  • Made in the USA
Cons
  • Not a ton of style options
  • Exterior gets slightly sticky when wet

Best Overall: In addition to being made in the USA, SafeRingz offers a solid product at a great price point. So while their metal finishes aren’t quite as realistic as some of the higher-priced ones on this list, they do allow for custom engraving, should you want your partner’s initials or some other inscription. And because they’re made of medical-grade silicone rubber, they’re biocompatible, heat-resistant, non-conductive, and chemically inert. They come in three separate widths — a 3mm “stackable,” a 6mm “original,” and a 9mm “titan” — meaning you can mix and match your rings to complement your existing collection.

The Good

When factoring in price, look, and material, the SafeRingz Original Metallic Silicone Ring is the best option around. If you’re looking for something that looks just like your actual wedding ring, this will be the one for you. I got hands-on with both the silver and gunmetal 6mm versions, which are almost the identical width of my own wedding ring. While no silicone material will look identical to any actual metal, the SafeRingz is the closest we found, using a USA-made proprietary colorant that adds a metallic look to the range of color options, including the silver variant, which was the best at mimicking metal. It also fit the most like my ring, not just because of the width but the thickness as well, which was comparable to a normal wedding band.

Surprisingly, the gunmetal metallic colorway was probably my favorite of the two. I loved the speckled colorway, but also, where most dark variants of other rings collect lint easily, the dark SafeRingz didn’t. Considering my slim knuckles, I fully expected this ring to slide off easily when wet like most other silicone rings, but I noticed that after only one wash, the inside of the ring actually stuck a bit better to my skin, which I found interesting. On the other hand, the water made the outside stickier as well.

Saferingz F 11 24 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Not so Good

You won’t get as many style options with the SafeRingz, but that’s not a bad thing. It allows the colors they do have to be designed more meticulously. However, if you like the products from SafeRingz, you may wish they had something other than these metallic colorways, or at least more pattern or shape options.

As I mentioned, the exterior did tend to stick after it got wet, but this was hardly as noticeable as on other thicker rings since the profile was so low here.

Saferingz F 11 24 4

Verdict: Nailing most of the desired attributes of a silicone ring, the SafeRingz Original Metallic Ring is arguably the best around, especially if you’re looking for something that looks and feels most similar to a metal wedding band. We loved the fit here, and how it stuck to our skin. However, the exterior also got a bit sticky when wet. If you want a variety of styles and colors, this won’t be your best bet, but if ring simulation is what you’re after, you’ll be pleased with this affordable purchase.

Groove Life Edge Original Silicone Wedding Ring

Groove Life F 11 24 1
Photo: HICONSUMPTION
Pros
  • Fits the most like an actual metal ring
  • Surprisingly classy considering casual options
  • Very comfortable
  • Dries quickly inside
  • Doesn’t latch onto lint or dust
  • Lots of color/style options
Cons
  • Doesn’t look like metal rings, but isn’t trying to

Best for Athletes: Groove Life silicone rings come with a unique rounded interior design that makes them unrivaled in their comfort. For instance, by minimizing contact with your skin, they can go almost unnoticed when worn. But that’s not all — they’re also temperature regulating. So in addition to allowing air to flow in, they let moisture flow out, meaning no more need to worry about clammy or swollen fingers. And with tons of interesting shapes, textures, and interior designs available for purchase, you can customize your look according to your tastes. Backed by a hassle-free 94-year warranty, you can’t go wrong with one of these options from Groove Life.

Groove Life F 11 24 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Good

As I mentioned with the ThunderFit, silicone rings won’t fit precisely the same way as metal rings, both due to the inherent flexibility of silicone and the natural swelling experienced with metal. However, in terms of fit, the Groove Life Edge was the most comfortable here. With highly desirable proportions in terms of both width and thickness, it didn’t move around or rotate throughout the day or when washing my hands, nor did it ever become annoying against my knuckle or adjacent fingers. And when it came time to take it off, it felt similar to the tension of my actual wedding ring, which is exactly what was left to be desired from most of the others I tested.

What initially drew us to the Edge was its look and design, equipped with interior channels, which work like a charm when draining moisture from the finger. Even without removing the ring, the inside dried shockingly quickly after washing my hands.

Groove Life is a really cool brand. Not only are their rings fairly priced but there are plenty of options on the sit, including thicker models and ones with 3D graphics. The company also makes wallets and belts. Arriving in a cool metal container (as opposed to plastic bags from most other brands), the Edge ring is their flagship, sporting a classy infinity logo on the side, which is a subtle piece of branding but also looks like it could be a sort of statement made by the wearer for his “infinite love” for his spouse. Each exterior color comes with a complementary interior color. The moss green I tested had an orange color on the inside. Despite being grippy, the exterior doesn’t latch onto lint or dirt hardly at all.

The Not so Good

While many other silicone bands go to great lengths to look like a metal wedding ring, Groove Life knows that’s a losing battle. Not as much a “con” as it is a deal-breaker for some, these rings just don’t look like your actual wedding ring. And if that’s what you’re looking for, you will likely go elsewhere.

Groove Life F 11 24 4

Verdict: One of the best in terms of fit and feel, the Groove Life Edge doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. Embracing the idea of a silicone ring absolutely with it’s array of surprisingly classy options, this band has the best fit of our tested models and is a great choice for athletes with its meticulous cutout channels on the inside that allow your finger to dry incredibly quick. It won’t look like your standard metal ring, but it’s not trying to be. Instead, you get a quality band with enough design touches that could very well make you choose this over any of the others. And for around $30, you really can’t beat that.

Enso Rings Elements Classic Silicone Ring – Standard

Enso Elements Classic F 11 24 1
Photo: HICONSUMPTION
Pros
  • Tons of style and color options
  • Mixes precious metals into the silicone material
  • Effective contour lines for breathability
  • Looks a lot like a metal wedding ring; photographs well
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Doesn’t attract lint as easily
Cons
  • Runs a bit large
  • Spins around on finger too easily

Best Upgrade: While these other options tend to forgo the metal look entirely, Enso manages to imitate traditional bands pretty successfully. And as part of their all-new contour elements line, they infuse the silicone with actual precious metals, so each ring contains trace elements of the material from which it gets its name. In other words — these rings take the best properties of silicone and pair them with a premium package. If you’re looking for a more elegant alternative to the rest of these options, Enso is your best bet. With free returns and a lifetime guarantee, Enso offers a buying experience unmatched in its customer satisfaction.

Enso Elements Classic F 11 24 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Good

Of all the options I tested, I did notice that the silver Enso ring was one of only a couple that looked like my white gold wedding ring. This isn’t only due to the color and texturing of the silver-hued model we tested but also the ridges on the outside edges of the ring. This especially was the case when photographed; the band just looks more elevated than many of its competitors. We went with the standard width on this unit but it was still perfectly low-profile. Despite it fitting slightly too big, I hardly noticed the ring on my finger throughout the day. I also want to shout out the sheer number of color and pattern options with the Enso. For this Elements model alone, there are 13 colorways, but you can also nerd out with its array of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings picks, which are surprisingly classy considering the nature of the design.

While the ring did feel a bit larger than my size 10 finger, it also didn’t overheat, thanks to the cooling channels (and, admittedly, the extra space around my finger due to the bigger fit). I also don’t mind paying the extra money for the Enso since it does have more premium materials inside besides just silicone. This is our de facto “upgrade” model but you’re not just paying a higher price for nothing.

Enso Elements Classic F 11 24 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Not so Good

As I mentioned, the fit of the ring is a bit bigger than a normal size 10. I would probably prefer to go down a size 9 (there are no half sizes). Luckily, the Enso was lower in profile so the fit never yielded a bulkier feel against my finger, although the “stickiness” of the silicone was more noticeable. But it was the motion that bothered me the most. When I washed my hands, the ring spun around my finger incidentally, which was annoying and made me feel like it was going to fall off. It doesn’t cost thousands of dollars but I still don’t want to lose a $40 ring either. Speaking of which, the price tag on this feels a bit high, but isn’t a deal-breaker when you consider how good it looks and feels.

Enso Elements Classic F 11 24 4

Verdict: While it did run a bit large and moved around too much, the Enso Elements Classic might get mistaken for a metal band thanks in part to the metals mixed into the silicone material. We loved how this looked and felt, with effective cooling channels inside for breathability that was noticeable. Notably steeper in price than other options, the Enso still feels appropriately premium, and there are plenty of color, style, and pattern options for you to choose from.

Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring Set

Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring Set F 11 24 1
Photo: HICONSUMPTION
Pros
  • Dries very quickly
  • Brand guarantees two replacements later on
  • Doesn’t attract lint
  • Very comfortable between fingers, even if it’s too big
  • Looks highly masculine for a thinner size
Cons
  • Runs about a size too big
  • Pricey, but you get 2 rings (4 total over time)

Best Thin Ring: Ridge is one of those brands that’s proven it can do a whole lot in the men’s accessories sphere. Joining the ranks of its EDC wallets and travel bags, this 6mm Silicone Ring Set is another case in point. In general, silicone rings have a tendency to be rather thick, but Ridge makes a really popular 6mm option that still looks very good. Moreover, each set comes in a sturdy gear case that clasps shut and includes a pair of tungsten rings. You can currently choose from one of five exterior colors, while a second ring comes in black. Best of all, Ridge offers two free replacements over the course of your life (after you register the rings via QR code and serial number), just in case you lose or gain weight and your current ring doesn’t fit you anymore.

Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring Set F 11 24 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Good

While there is an 8mm version of the Ridge Silicone Ring, we loved the look of the 6mm version. There are other thin men’s bands out there, but none of them appeared this masculine, which translates well upon receiving them in person. Each ring has a beveled edge, which provides a bit of subtle style, while the color is perfectly matted, but without looking cheap. On the finger, it was comfortable enough but dried very quickly. After washing my hands the first time, I did a quick towel dry, and within seconds, the outside of the rings was completely dry and the inside was almost there too, thanks to the draining channels.

Despite running large, the rings aren’t annoying between my fingers; they just slide around too easily but don’t come off unintentionally. I didn’t have any issues when washing my hands. Also, unlike other dark-colored rings that attract lint and dirt, it was not the case whatsoever with the Ridge. Likewise, there was no sticky sensation on the outside, even when wet.

Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring Set F 11 24 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The Not so Good

The Ridge rings might be expensive, but you effectively get four rings for the price. Not to mention, these are incredibly stylish and even come in a cool protective tactical case. However, the bands may run larger than any other band I tested. They slide off easily (although never inadvertently) and spin quite a lot when I don’t want them to. I would probably go down a full size here. This was the only model I switched over to my index finger to get a practical sense of how it’s supposed to feel (it did great when it fit). On the other hand, this was essentially the only flaw I could find with the ring and I loved it overall.

Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring Set F 11 24 4

Verdict: Although it ran larger than any other ring we tested, the Ridge 6mm Silicone Ring is also the most stylish thin band we could find. With a very masculine aesthetic, the ring dries better than the competition, both inside and out, and in seconds. It might be a bit pricier, but it looks and feels high-quality. Plus, the brand offers two free replacements over your lifetime, which is pretty awesome. This accounts for lost rings or rings that no longer fit properly.

Why Own A Silicone Wedding Ring?

Aside from being really affordable, silicone rings allow you to say, “I’m taken,” while engaging (no pun intended) in activities such as swimming, woodworking, climbing, and lifting weights. Likewise, if you do choose to remove your ring for whatever reason, you won’t risk losing the actual symbol used when taking your vows. Plus, it will be easily replaceable (you may even have a few of them at home).

Silicone rings are also more comfortable than metal ones. They’re more lightweight and won’t clash with any weights you’re holding or dig into your finger.

Honorable Mentions

QALO is one of the brands attributed with the rise of silicone rings, and its Men’s Crosshatch Q2X is still one of the most impressive, durable options around. We weren’t able to get hands-on with a unit for testing, but these are still pretty impressive. They’re 10x more resistant to chemicals and solvents like gasoline than other rings and are temperature resistant to 575ºF!

ROQ’s Men’s Silicone Rings are another good budget pick, but they might be better for short stretches and don’t have the tensile strength of other cheap bands.

Another breathable option for active individuals is the Egnaro Inner Arc Ring. However, the Groove Life Edge is just too good to beat here. But if you see an aesthetic you like from Egnaro, go for it!

We didn’t love the garish design on the outside of the Knot Theory Trinity Band but if you do, just know that these are very popular silicone bands with fitness experts and athletes.
