After taking the world by storm with his premium automobiles (especially the 911, which remains one of the most iconic cars in history), Ferdinand Porsche founded the first Porsche Design studio in 1972. The story of this sublabel began with the Chronograph I, a reimagined watch made with Porsche’s simple, functional, and elegant design principles. Since then, Porsche Design has released a plethora of celebratory and boutique products that honor the legacy of Porsche. One collection among these releases, the sunglasses, takes inspiration from motorsports and cars from Porsche for one-of-a-kind shades. This premier eyewear is quite popular among gearheads, and Porsche Design has just released the Sunglasses P´8951 Ltd. Edition, a pair of aluminum sunglasses inspired by the Porsche 911 as part of the Iconic series.
These limited-edition sunglasses are designed with an entirely aluminum frame that features sharp lines and angular geometry all around. This geometry is showcased best on the front of the shades, with two angular lenses that appear separate at first but are actually part of a single shield. The front, along with the temples, is precisely milled from a block of aluminum, with Porsche Design’s logo lasered on the inside and the outside of the temple. The contrast between the light aluminum and the stark angles really elevates these glasses and makes them a unique entry in Porsche Design’s catalog. Additionally, these sunglasses come in a premium case with Porsche Design’s logo embossed on the top, along with a lens cleaning cloth.
The VISION DRIVE lens technology is making a return appearance, providing Uv400 Protection (absorbing rays with a wavelength of up to 400 nanometers), anti-glare protection essential for serious driving, and impact-resistant polycarbonate that’s coated for scratch resistance.
The Porsche Design Sunglasses P´8951 Ltd. Edition are limited to 911 pairs and are available now for $1,200.
