Originally formed in Knoxville, Tennessee at the tail-end of the 1950s, Alpha Industries has long been producing military-inspired garments, though it wasn’t until more recently that the American clothing label began being widely embraced by the high-fashion world, in particular, the streetwear scene. Alpha’s immense popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed by other clothing brands either, resulting in an ever-growing number of official collaborations with big-name outfits like Deus Ex Machina, Vans, Helinox, BAPE, DR. Martens, IISE, NASA, Mastermind, STÜSSY, 3sixteen, ADER error, Playboy Magazine, and Gramicci, just to name a few. And just in time for the FW21 season, Alpha Industries has now announced its next joint effort in the form of a limited-edition capsule collection born out of a collab with New Balance.
Comprised of half-a-dozen special edition items, the limited-edition capsule boasts an olive drab color scheme and is anchored by a limited edition version of New Balance’s 574 sneakers that sport suede uppers accented via waterproof nylon and CORDURA mesh, as well as contrasting emergency orange interiors and midsoles equipped with the footwear brand’s ENCAP cushioning tech. Sold in a special edition OD green box with an orange liner, the sneaker’s top eyelet also comes decorated with one of Alpha Industries’ hallmark “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT” tags, as well as a New Balance-labeled tag that was produced specially for the collab. The two brands have further built out the collection to include a full outfit with an OD green t-shirt, a pair of joggers, a regular hoodie, and a quarter-zip hoodie — priced at $70, $140, $140, and $195 respectively — that all come adorned in both Alpha Industries and New Balance patches. Rounding out the collection is a matching OD green sports cap, too.
The Alpha Industries x New Balance Capsule Collection is available on Alpha’s website now in limited numbers — and if past Alpha collabs are anything to go by, this new capsule will likely sell out quickly. The collection starts at $55 for the AI x NB cap and goes up to $195 for the Alpha Industries x New Balance quarter zip pull-over.
