When traversing rough terrain with loads of equipment, the last vehicle you’ll probably think about using is an electric bicycle. However, these rides can not only get you farther off the grid but do so without burning fuel in the process.

California-based cycling firm Specialized has been perfecting the eBike since 2009 and has now unveiled its newest advancement. Building on the Turbo Tero platform released a few years back, the Turbo Tero X pairs all-terrain capabilities with a 12-speed drivetrain to go along with three motor options. Packaged as the Turbo Tero X 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0, these eBikes level up the powertrain one by one. While the 4.0 utilizes the brand’s Full Power 2.0E motor with 530Wh battery and 37lb.ft of torque, the 5.0 and 6.0 feature a 710Wh pack with motors that give you around 52lb.ft and 66lb.ft of oomph, respectively.

Upon the aluminum frame sits a cargo rack capable of over 44lbs of storage, with an additional 22lbs with add-ons. But no matter how much you’re lugging around, the ride is as smooth as ever thanks to 130/120mm of full suspension, a lock-out equipped RockShox Lyrik Select+ fork, and RockShox Deluxe Select+ shocks.

Ranging in price from $4,500 to $6,500, the Turbo Tero X eBikes are now available from Specialized.
