Redtail Overland Integrates the Skyloft Pop-Up Tent with Its Luxurious Camper Van

Camper vans don’t necessarily scream spaciousness. Though the quaint, downsized lifestyle appeals to those fed up with the hustle and bustle of the daily grind (or just those who watched Nomadland), class B RVs might be the most affordable way to live on four wheels but they’re not necessarily the most comfortable. Redtail Overland is one brand making moves to change all that, like they did a few years back with their patented Skyloft pop-up rooftop camping tent, which put a climate-controlled living area above the van itself to maximize space (you no longer need to have your master bedroom in the way of your living area). Now, the Colorado-based firm has taken things one step further by integrating the design into the lower cabin so you can move in and out with ease without having to go outside to do so.

Building off the already-impressive and luxurious Skyloft tent, the new integrated version features the same carbon fiber housing, full insulation, dimmable lighting, double-pane windows, a dedicated thermostat, 330W of solar paneling on top powering a 14kW lithium battery, and a bunch more. There’s even space to stow your bedding and pillows when the tent is closed for driving. The tent is accessed via a step ladder that slides on rails below.

As for the van downstairs, it’s given a separate zone for climate control than the upstairs sleeping area. Even the floors are heated. A lofted rear lounge is a nice place to work, play games, and eat on the removable four-person table while enjoying the views out the large window in back. It also features a TV on a swivel mount and can be converted into another sleeping area. Other features include a full galley, an enclosed wet bath, and lots of cabinetry and storage. The back of the van has a lower storage area that remains heated so you don’t have to worry about winter temperatures affecting your gear.
