Held at the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, the Goodwood Festival Of Speed is an annual festival held every July that celebrates all things motorsport. In addition to attracting well-over-100,000 attendees and guests, the event is also used as a platform for manufacturers to showcase their latest production and one-off concept vehicles. One such marque is Polestar, which has used the festival to unveil various vehicles from the last few years, including debuting the Precept in 2021, the Polestar 5 prototype and Polestar 2 BST edition 270 in 2022, and the Polestar 3 in 2023.

And for the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the EV outfit has opted to continue its tradition of revealing new automotive offerings, this time rolling out the ultra-sleek Polestar Concept BST.

The Basics

The brainchild of Polestar’s Head of Chassis Development Joakim Rydholm, the Concept BST is a heavily-modified one-off creation based on a Polestar 2. Utilizing the company’s bonded-aluminum Polestar Performance Architecture, the Concept BST was made as an experimental project aiming to explore how extreme the Polestar 2 could be when the traditional rulebook is tossed out.

Bespoke Bodywork

Sporting a more aggressive yet still quintessential Scandinavian design, the Concept BST boasts a custom set of aero-equipped, widebody-style bodywork. Cloaked in a classic motorsport silver livery, the bespoke body features a one-off front splitter, a custom rear diffuser, an aero-optimized hood complete with air extractors, a windowless rear hatch, an oversized rear wing, and 22” forged alloy wheels shod in sticky performance tires sitting under heavily-flared wheel arches.

Custom Cabin

Just like the outside of the car, the concept’s cabin has been heavily reworked. Stripped down and redesigned for more spirited driving, the interior comes trimmed in Nappa leather and sports a myriad of gold accent elements — matching the calipers of the car.

Production Model Precursor

While there’s no denying Polestar’s latest concept is one seriously impressive design study, there’s another factor that makes the Concept BST so special, and that’s the fact that it essentially serves as the precursor for the EV maker’s forthcoming Polestar 6 production roadster — albeit with more extreme bodywork and a special race livery. Following in the footsteps of the Polestar 2 BST edition 270 and Polestar 2 BST edition 230, Polestar’s forthcoming roadster will likely be offered in a high-performance BST-spec once it enters production in 2026.

Performance Capabilities

Thus far, Polestar hasn’t revealed any specifics on the performance capabilities of its latest concept. Having said that, the company has released specs on the upcoming Polestar 6 production model. Because the Concept BST is a precursor for the later production model, it’s safe to assume the concept boasts specs that are on par with, or superior to that of the forthcoming production roadster. Kicked along by a dual-motor powertrain, the vehicle makes 884hp, allowing it to do 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds. The thing also uses an 800-volt battery architecture, though range is unknown — or at least yet to be revealed.

In Their Own Words

Goodwood Festival of Speed is full of the most exciting cars and the most enthusiastic crowds, so it’s the perfect place for us to tease our Polestar Concept BST,” explains Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “This car is a demonstration of how far we can push our performance brand – Polestar turned up to 11 if you will – and a demonstration of how we could apply the BST formula to our line up in the future.”

What Makes it Special

Though it uses Polestar’s signature design language, the Concept BST nonetheless represents a major deviation from the marque’s normal formula. It’s markedly more extreme and performance-focused than the brand’s existing production offerings. Rather than being engineered as a sleek yet practical commuter car, the new concept is much less practical and utilitarian, instead aiming to be as fun and high-performance as possible — making it something of a fully-electric true driver’s car, albeit in concept form, at least for now.
