Nissan Built a Baja-Ready Armada with Prototype NISMO Off-Road Parts for SEMA

While we love SEMA, these annual SEMA builds typically fall into two distinct categories: outrageous showpieces nobody would ever actually drive, or thinly-veiled product catalogs disguised as concepts (you know, the stuff that will never become reality).

But, Nissan’s Dune Patrol sits somewhere a bit more interesting. It’s a legitimately capable desert support vehicle loaded with prototype NISMO Off Road parts that could actually reach production…if enough people show interest. Based on the Armada PRO-4X (or Patrol, depending on your market), this concept answers a question most people never asked: what if you need to support a desert racer in genuine comfort?

Long-Travel Suspension That Actually Matters

The foundation is a custom CJD Racing long-travel suspension system delivering up to 16 inches of wheel travel. Front and rear feature custom-fabricated upper and lower control arms, new spindles, tie rods, 4340 drive axles, and extended brake lines. The damping comes from 10-inch Bilstein M 9200 coilovers with bypass shocks at both ends, providing externally adjustable compression and rebound.

More than just a standard lift kit, the suspension work required extended shock towers at the rear, misalignment spacers throughout, and custom heims and uniballs at virtually every pivot point.

Prerunner Aesthetics Meet Function

Custom FiberWerx fenders add 4 inches of width and 2 inches of height to accommodate the 37-inch Yokohama Geolander MT tires mounted on prototype NISMO AXIS beadlock wheels (18×9, +15 offset, black with bronze beadlock rings). The prerunner-style flares give the Dune Patrol an aggressive stance while providing actual tire clearance at full suspension compression.

Most of the exterior equipment consists of prototype NISMO Off Road parts. High-clearance bumpers front and rear provide approach and departure angles while housing recovery points, an integrated front skid plate, and multiple LED light arrays. The rear bumper features a customizable swing-out spare tire carrier and multi-use accessory mount currently holding MaxTrax traction boards.

Support Vehicle Details

Frame-mounted rock sliders protect the rocker panels, while A-pillar mounts house additional LED driving lights with amber covers. The prototype low-profile roof rack carries a 40-inch LED light bar up front, a 30-inch rear-facing chase light, six-inch LED floods, storage cases, and MOLLE panels for securing fuel and water canisters. There’s even a universal radio antenna mount for long-range communication in remote areas.

Inside, the Dune Patrol features an integrated Air-On-Board compressor system (borrowed from the international Patrol), interior MOLLE panels, seatback organizers, door scuff protectors, and all-season floor mats. All-in-all, this is a truck designed to support desert racers over multi-day events, not win beauty contests (although it does look really good).
