Mercedes-AMG is clearly tired of watching Porsche hold court at the Nürburgring. After the 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit embarrassed the AMG GT Black Series back in 2021, stealing the production car lap record with a 6:43.3 time versus AMG’s 6:48.047, the folks in Affalterbach have been plotting revenge. The Concept AMG GT Track Sport represents that payback, and despite the “concept” label, this thing looks production-ready enough to suggest Mercedes isn’t messing around.
The teaser images show a heavily camouflaged prototype that’s clearly been built for one purpose: going fast around race tracks. That massive swan-neck rear wing and aggressive front splitter aren’t there for show, and the Michelin street tire sitting next to the car confirms this will be road-legal rather than a track-only special.

Taking Aim at the GT3 RS
AMG’s messaging is refreshingly direct. They want to “set new standards and record times,” which in supercar speak translates to “we’re coming for the ‘Ring record.” The timing makes perfect sense too. AMG needs a homologation special for their upcoming next-generation GT3 race car, and what better way to create one than by building the most hardcore GT yet?
The second-generation AMG GT has been criticized for going soft, adopting a 2+2 layout and sharing its platform with the SL-Class. The Track Sport appears designed to address those complaints head-on, likely returning to a strict two-seat configuration while adding the kind of aero and performance hardware needed to run with Porsche’s best.

V8 Power with Unknown Numbers
Mercedes confirms the Track Sport will pack a V8 engine, almost certainly their twin-turbo 4.0-liter setup. Current AMG GT variants produce anywhere from 469 to 603 horsepower, though the hybrid GT63 S E Performance pushes that to 805 horses. For a Nürburgring record attempt, expect power figures well beyond the 720 horsepower of the previous Black Series.
Whether AMG adds hybrid assistance remains unclear, but the “uncompromising” nature suggests they’ll throw everything at this project. A 9-speed automatic transmission, limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension, and massive carbon-ceramic brakes should handle the mechanical duties.

More Than Just a Concept
Despite the concept designation, this feels like barely disguised production intent. AMG specifically mentions this provides “a preview of a possible expansion of the GT series” and notes “the GT family is not yet complete.” That’s corporate speak for “we’re definitely building this thing.”
The camouflaged prototype testing on tracks supports that theory. You don’t develop elaborate aerodynamic packages and swan-neck wings for show cars – you build them to generate genuine downforce for lap time attacks.
