INEOS Just Built the Portal Axle Grenadier of Your Dreams

When INEOS showed off a portal axle Grenadier concept at Goodwood last year, the response was so overwhelming that they had no choice but to make it real. Over 1,000 people registered interest, plus inquiries from rescue services and aid agencies who need vehicles that can handle the absolute worst conditions imaginable. Sometimes the market speaks loud enough that you just have to listen.

The result is the Grenadier Trialmaster X LETECH – a collaboration with German off-road specialists that takes an already capable truck and takes things to the next level, completely reimagining what this truck is capable of.

Portal Axles Change Everything

The star of the show is LETECH’s portal axle system, which moves the wheel hubs away from the main axle line and instantly adds 7.3 inches of ground clearance, bring total clearance to an impressive 17.7 inches. More importantly, it increases wading depth from 31.5 inches to 41.3 inches, meaning you can drive through water that’s nearly waist-deep.

Portal axles aren’t just about height, though. They also provide better weight distribution, improved axle articulation, and greater wheel travel. Combined with the 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch forged beadlock wheels, the result is a truck that can handle deep sand, flooded terrain, or extremely rocky environments with confidence.

German Engineering Meets British Ruggedness

LETECH has been modifying off-road vehicles since 2009, and their attention to detail shows throughout this conversion. The package includes a complete heavy-duty five-link suspension setup front and rear, plus LETECH’s own high-performance braking system to handle the increased demands of the bigger tires and added weight.

But it’s the accessories that really complete the package. There’s a WARN winch mounted up front, extended wheel arches to cover those massive tires, a multi-function rear ladder with jerry can mounts, a full roof rack system with LED marker lights, and a spare wheel carrier. Optional extras include an integrated tire pressure control system and MAXTRAX sand ladders. Basically everything you’d need for a serious expedition.

Built the Right Way

What sets this apart from typical aftermarket conversions is the process. INEOS builds the vehicles at their Hambach factory, then ships them directly to LETIH’s facility near Stuttgart for the full conversion. This ensures quality control and means the entire package is covered by warranty, which includes five years unlimited mileage from INEOS, plus two years on the LETECH components.

The base vehicles are Trialmaster trim level, which means they come loaded with leather interior, heated front seats, premium sound system, and privacy glass. You can choose between BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel or gasoline engines.
