Hyundai first used the IONIQ nameplate for a compact liftback model back in 2016, though the Korean carmaker has since launched an EV range under the IONIQ umbrella. And the latest all-electric model to be released under Hyundai’s fledgling EV brand is the all-new IONIQ 6 — a sleek, fully-electric streamliner that opens EV ownership up to the masses.
The second addition to the marque’s EV range, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is loosely based on the firm’s Prophecy EV Concept. While it isn’t the most powerful or fastest EV model, the IONIQ 6 features an ultra-slippery drag-coefficient — Hyundai’s best to date — that allows for stellar range. This area is helped along by the use of a low nose, active front air flaps, wheel gap reducers, available slim digital side mirrors, a winglet-equipped elliptical wing-inspired spoiler, a boat tail-style rear-end, and an underbody airflow optimizer. The IONIQ 6 also integrates over 700 Parametric Pixels into its construction, including on the headlights and the rear-end’s ultra-sleek Pixel High-Mounted Stop Lamps.
Described by Hyundai as both a “cocoon-inspired interior” and a “mindful personal space on wheels,” the cabin of the IONIQ 6 looks just as modern as the vehicle’s exterior, with a bridge-type center console, Dual Color Ambient Lighting, and a modular touchscreen dashboard featuring an integrated a 12” full-touch infotainment display and a 12” digital cluster. The interior of the car was also designed with sustainability in mind, and as such boasts eco-process leather or recycled PET fabric seats, a bio TPO skin dashboard, a bio PET fabric headliner, bio paint derived from vegetable oils, and carpets made from recycled fishing nets.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is scheduled to make its official public debut later next month, at which time pricing, availability, and a full spec sheet will be revealed.
