The Gunther Werks F-26 Turns Porsche’s Slantnose Into a 1,000-HP Carbon Weapon

The Porsche Slantnose was always polarizing – that flat, elongated nose either spoke to you or it didn’t. Most people fell into the “didn’t” category, which is probably why Porsche only made a handful of them in the 1980s. Gunther Werks clearly falls into the “spoke to me” camp, because they just unveiled Project F-26 at Monterey Car Week, which is a 1,000-horsepower reimagining of the Slantnose that costs $1.57 million and makes exactly zero apologies for existing.

This marks Gunther Werks’ first attempt at interpreting the controversial Slantnose design, and they approached it with the same obsessive attention to detail that made their 400R famous. The result is something that looks like a fighter jet designed by someone who really, really loves Porsche 935 race cars. Which, frankly, is exactly what the world needed.

Air-Cooled Insanity in Carbon Fiber

Built on a reinforced 993 chassis with 200% more rigidity than stock, the F-26 houses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six developed with Rothsport Racing. The engine produces a staggering 1,000 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 750 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm.

The cooling system deserves a special shoutout because keeping an air-cooled engine happy at those power levels requires serious engineering. Gunther Werks fitted a race-derived flat fan that flows more than double the air volume of traditional vertical fans, plus a carbon fiber airbox, redesigned intercooler plenum, and 935-style exhaust with external wastegates. The entire front end is carbon fiber, eliminating the original’s pop-up headlights in favor of fixed units that improve airflow.

Weight Reduction Meets Carbon Obsession

Peter Nam’s background as founder of Vorsteiner (a leading carbon fiber parts manufacturer) shows throughout the F-26. Carbon fiber doors, body panels, front and rear diffusers, that massive 935-inspired rear wing, even the engine shroud and five-piece floor are all carbon fiber. The result is a total weight of just 2,700 pounds.

The suspension setup matches the engineering ambition elsewhere. Double-wishbone front suspension with anti-dive geometry, custom multilink rear, and adaptive JRZ dampers handle the dynamics. Massive carbon-ceramic brakes (six-piston front, four-piston rear) provide stopping power that hopefully matches the acceleration. Magnesium Turbo Twist monoblock wheels measure 18×9.5 front and 18×12 rear, wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Force rubber.

Fighter Jet Aesthetics

The F-26’s design language is intentionally aggressive. That “Custom Metallic” paint finish looks like liquid mercury, while the widebody proportions and fighter jet-inspired nose create an unmistakable presence. The rear wing is nearly the size of a picnic table, but it’s definitely functional.

Inside, Gunther Werks combined luxury with racing functionality. Leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, exposed carbon fiber trim, and a wooden shift knob (a tribute to classic Porsche racing heritage) create an environment that’s both sophisticated and purposeful. Even the steering wheel design draws inspiration from fighter jet wing profiles.

More Than Just Power

The F-26 also includes modern safety features like motorsport-grade ABS and advanced traction control, which feels essential when managing 1,000 horsepower through rear wheels alone. The six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential maintain the analog driving experience that makes air-cooled 911s special, while the extended wheelbase (30mm longer than stock) improves stability at speed.
