With the advent of electrification taking place in the automotive industry, many tech developers around the world are making their foray into the electric vehicle space. The competition to take the limelight away from EV behemoth Tesla is more fierce than ever. One company that has emphatically thrown down the gauntlet in a bid to establish itself as a premier EV manufacturer is Foxconn. If the name rings a bell, it’s because they have long been Apple’s partner in manufacturing the iPhone, but now the Taiwanese tech giant is entering into the automotive space with the debut of their three EV prototypes.
Taking inspiration from the original Ford models (or perhaps Tesla), Foxconn has named their EVs the Model C, the Model T, and the Model E. The Model C is Foxconn’s SUV model, which dons a sleek, minimalist design. Foxconn minimized space allotment for mechanical components inside the Model C in order to maximize seating space to comfortably fit seven people. As far as specifications are concerned, Foxconn hasn’t released much information on any of their prototypes, but they stated the Model C has a 0-62 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a range just shy of 435 miles. Its luxury sedan counterpart, the Model E, has a rear seat space that can transform into a mobile office for the businessman on the go. The Model E allows for personal mobile devices to connect seamlessly through its interface and comes with a bevy of smart applications like smart doors that open from facial recognition, smart windows, and environment interfaces. What’s more, the Model E has an impressive output of 750 horsepower, a blistering 0-62 time of 2.8 seconds, and an impressive range of 466 miles.
Rounding out their lineup is Foxconn’s futuristic urban bus, the Model T. Foxconn is marketing the Model T as an “intelligent transportation solution” for cities, capable of going 248 miles on a single charge. They have yet to list the full specifications for the Model T as well, but it can go 75 mph and has undergone over 1,000 hours of strength tests and over 120,000 in endurance tests. Foxconn plans to release these models for sale in 2023 in Taiwan.
