EarthCruiser Is Developing a Slide-Out Overlanding Camper Specifically For EVs

With Rivian’s R1T having recently won MotorTrend’s 2022 Truck of the Year award, it’s abundantly clear that fully-electric vehicles will play a significant role in the future of off-roading and overlanding. Recognizing this reality, the overland rig purveyors at EarthCruisers have begun preparing for this ongoing shift with the development of its first-ever EV rig.

This slide-out (pop-up roof) camper will be the first model ever developed specifically for an electric vehicle. Despite being a slide-out model, the rig will still be incredibly lightweight — an absolute must in order to not hinder an overlander’s range. Speaking of which, we’re also anticipating EarthCruiser to outfit the truck with — at least optional/available solar panels or some other means of charging while off of the electrical grid.

Aerodynamics will be another crucial focus of the go-anywhere camper — another element that will no doubt bolster the truck’s off-road autonomy. While we’re confident that EarthCruiser’s slide-out EV camper will be available for the Rivian R1T, it’s still unclear if the rig will be offered in versions compatible with the Ford F-150 Lightning, Tesla Cybertruck, Lordstown Endurance, or GMC HUMMER EV Pickup.

While production is still months if not years out, EarthCruiser has already launched a preorder program for its slide-out EV camper that requires only a $100 initial deposit. Customers that place a deposit will also be asked about their preferences for the platform as the company reaches the tail-end of development.
