First launched in 1948, Ford’s F Series is a legendary lineup of trucks that’s been in continuous production for three-quarters of a century — during which time over 32,000,000 units have been built. Even more rugged, the Blue Oval’s Super Duty lineup has long been engineered from the ground up to meet the demands and needs of contractors and laborers, however, with a heavily reinforced chassis, ample ground clearance, and a rock-solid build quality, vintage Super Duty models have also become an increasingly popular platform for contemporary off-road builds — an area furthered by the increasingly abundant array of available aftermarket parts for these vintage models. Case in point; this lifted and ruggedized sixth-generation F-250 restomod that’s recently hit the online auction block.
Starting out as a very tired 1976 Ford F-250 regular-cab long-bed example, this restomod has received a slew of upgrades and aftermarket elements that collectively modernize the truck’s performance while largely retaining its factory aesthetics. The donor’s stock bodywork has been cloaked in a new coat of white paint before being fitted with black-finished door handles and mirrors and tinted windows throughout — admittedly minor tweaks but ones that nonetheless help to visually modernize the vehicle a bit. Like the exterior of the truck, the Super Duty’s cabin has been reconditioned but otherwise not hugely modified, receiving only a small handful of minor changes and additions such as a multi-spoke steering wheel set in front of new green-backlit AutoMeter NV gauges, new black leather upholstery, a folding center armrest, and a Kenwood stereo receiver mated to to a new amp and sub.
At the heart of this high-end restomod project is a 390ci V8 that’s been completely rebuilt, mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and outfitted with a four-barrel carb with an electronic choke, an electronic ignition system, a rebuilt radiator, and a side-exiting dual-exhaust setup. The 6.4-liter mill also sends power to the ground via a rebuilt dual-range transfer case. Alongside its more powerful, rebuilt motor, the F-250’s off-roading prowess has been furthered bolstered thanks to ProLine Fabrication bumpers fore and aft, a bed-lined cargo area, side steps, rear tow shackles, an integrated WARN winch, powder-coated Dana 44 axles with a front unit with manually locking hubs, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes all around. Built atop a freshly black powder-coated chassis, the entire build now rides on a set of black-finished 18” wheels shod in 38” Toyo Open Country M/T tires. Rounding out the build is a modern Painless Wiring harness kit and a new 30-gallon fuel tank.
