Aston-Martin’s racing history is well-documented, and its latest concept design is whole-heartedly acknowledging it even further. With the unveiling of the DBR22, the iconic British marque executes a masterful display of mixing the old with the new.
The conceptual coach-built coupe was designed by Aston Martin’s decade-old bespoke division, Q by Aston Martin. The in-house branch has celebrated its tenth anniversary by wheeling out limited examples of its most iconic models. Moreover, the DBR22 takes direct inspiration from its ’50s-and-’60s-era DBR1 and DB3S, the first of which is best known for capturing three championships in one year, including Le Mans in 1959. For example, one bespoke element that appears here is a carbon fiber-designed grill taken from the previous racing models.
Meanwhile, its cockpit fuses materials like leather and carbon fiber to construct a luxurious display of contemporary and classic design. Then, a new dashboard and an array of carbon fiber performance seats highlight the car’s interior. Performance-wise, it boasts a 2.5-liter V12 Twin-Turbo powertrain, 705hp, and just over 555 lb-ft torque, as well as a 0-60mph rate of a mere 3.4 seconds. All these features, plus a top speed of 198mph, conjoin to take Aston’s track-ready design to the next level.
The DBR22 was revealed at this year’s Monterey Car Week, and considering Aston Martin touts it as one of the rarest models in its history, it will probably be one of the only places visitors will ever encounter it.
