Alpinestars Debuts the First Off-Road-Specific Wireless Airbag System

Alpinestars introduced the first generation of its Tech-Air Race airbag in 2009, testing the smart wireless system in MotoGP before later bringing it to market in 2014. And while the Italian moto gear brand’s Tech-Air system has evolved over the subsequent years, Astars has now debuted what’s certainly one of its most innovative offerings to date with a trio of new, envelope-pushing airbag systems.

Unveiled at CES 2022, Alpinestars’ next generation of airbag systems includes the all-new Tech-Air 3, a commuter-focused universal over-the-jacket airbag vest that can be worn over practically any riding jacket or regular garment. Successor to Alpinestars’ existing Tech-Air 5 system, the new MotoGP-derived Tech-Air 10 is a state-of-the-art airbag system for racers and track day enthusiasts, as well as the first wireless airbag system to extend down past the rider’s waist to afford hip protection. Astars’ biggest announcement from this year’s CES, however, is undoubtedly the official release of its Tech-Air OFF-ROAD V2 — the world’s first-ever off-road-specific wireless airbag system. The production-ready version of a prototype that the company unveiled in early 2020 — and has since been extensively field-tested in the last three runnings of the infamous Dakar Rally — the Tech-Air OFF-ROAD V2 affords the highest possible levels of protection for riders taking on some of the planet’s harshest race conditions. Designed to be worn beneath a race jersey, the off-road system’s cutting-edge textile construction airbag vest also features built-in Alpinestars shoulder, spine, elbow, chest, and forearm Bionic Armor.

Alpinestars plans to release the Tech-Air 10 first, with a rollout planned for this spring and pricing set at $1,000. Next will come the Tech-Air 3 in August, with an expected MSRP of $600. Finally, the brand will launch the $900 Tech-Air OFF-ROAD V2 sometime in Q4 this year.
