While Italy, Germany, and England typically serve as the benchmark for European auto manufacturers, the country of France has served its due diligence, and Alpine’s remarkable A110 R Fernando Alonso Edition serves as the latest example of that.

The marque’s motorsport-inspired take on its iconic A110 sports car is as slim as ever before, weighing in at roughly 75 pounds less than the A110 S — keep in mind that weighed a mere 2440.5 pounds, going to show that there was only so much to cut down. Performance-wise, the A110 R (which stands for ‘Radical’) features a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that provides 300hp output, a top speed of just over 177mph, and 251 lb-ft of torque.

Cosmetically, Alpine claims that it redesigned certain elements for the first time in the A110’s history, including alterations to the rear window and diffuser for enhanced aerodynamics. In addition to these minor tweaks, the car’s interior is practically something pulled out of an old Speed Racer episode, highlighted by race-approved carbon fiber seats and a full-on microfiber fabric composition.
