EVs might be the way of the future but they do have their drawbacks. Largely reliant on lithium-ion battery packs, electric vehicles tend to suffer from temperature sensitivity, flammability, and range issues. Plus, the use of rare materials like lithium and cobalt has an effect on the cost and sustainability of the vehicles.
A couple years ago, Verge Motorcycles-owned Donut Lab announced it was working on a solid-state EV battery that could change everything. Back in January at CES, they announced they’ve beat everyone to market with production starting soon. Well, this week, that time has finally come with the first units coming off the line.

A Different Kind of Motorcycle Company
Founded in Finland in 2018, Verge built the TS Pro from the ground up around one central idea: what if an electric motorcycle was actually designed for electricity? The result was the hubless rear-wheel in-wheel motor, a drivetrain that eliminates the chain, lowers the center of gravity, and sheds roughly 120 parts compared to a conventional setup. The motor sits where the rear axle would be, which also frees up room for a larger battery. It’s a clean-sheet approach that earned the brand flagship stores in Monaco and California, an ambassador partnership with F1 legends Mika Häkkinen and Valtteri Bottas, and a Guinness World Record for electric motorcycle range in 2025. The Gen 2 TS Pro is the next chapter, and it’s a big one.

The Battery Nobody Else Has
Donut Lab, the Verge spinoff co-founded by former CTO Marko Lehtimäki, has been developing what it calls an all-solid-state battery since 2024. The core claim is that if you swap the liquid or gel electrolyte in conventional lithium-ion cells for a solid material, and you get something dramatically safer, more energy-dense, and far longer-lasting. Solid-state development has been the automotive industry’s white whale for over a decade, with Toyota, Samsung, and QuantumScape all chasing it without a production vehicle to show for it.

Donut’s numbers are aggressive. The battery is rated at 400 Wh/kg of energy density, operates from -30°C to 100°C without having an effect on performance or battery health, and is built from abundant materials rather than rare-earth elements. Donut’s own data puts a full charge at around five minutes. While these figures in the past have drawn skepticism from industry observers, the proof is no in the pudding with production models arriving soon, coming off real production lines in Estonia as we speak (see video below).

Donut Motor 2.0 and the Ride
The battery isn’t the only upgrade. The new Donut Motor 2.0 is 50% lighter than the previous generation while still delivering 100 kW of peak power and 737 lb-ft of torque through the hubless rear wheel. The result is a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph.

On-board, Verge’s proprietary Starmatter HMI ties it all together with four ride modes (Range, Zen, Beast, and a fully Custom setting), plus over-the-air update capability. The Standard kit also includes Brembo brakes and Öhlins/Wilbers suspension, neither of which are typically “standard” at this price point.

Recap
2026 Verge Motorcycles TS Pro Solid State Production
The 2026 Verge TS Pro Gen 2 just became the first production motorcycle to roll off the line with a solid-state battery, a milestone the entire auto industry has been chasing for years. With up to 370 miles of range, 10-minute charging, and 737 lb-ft of torque through Verge’s signature hubless motor, it’s the most compelling case yet that this Finnish outfit is more tech company than motorcycle brand.
