Shelby’s 830HP GT350/TA Brings Trans Am Racing Tech to a Street-Legal Mustang

Sixty years ago, Carroll Shelby’s Mustangs helped Ford capture its first-ever Trans Am Manufacturers’ Championship — the same year a GT40 famously schooled Ferrari at Le Mans. That racing lineage runs deep at Shelby American, and the new 2026 GT350/TA doubles down on track capability while honoring the SGT series that put the Mustang on the racing map in 1966.

Racing Roots

Built in partnership with Turn Key Automotive — an approved Trans Am vehicle builder — the GT350/TA is engineered using actual Trans Am-spec components that’ll show up in Shelby’s forthcoming race program. Turn Key’s competition expertise shaped everything from the suspension geometry to the cooling strategy.

The GT350/TA’s carbon fiber aero package does more than look aggressive. The Trans Am-inspired front splitter works in concert with functional dive planes and fender ducting to manage airflow at speed. New carbon rockers with vertical stabilizers clean up turbulence along the sides, while the adjustable rear wing and integrated rear diffuser (complete with a differential cooler) balance downforce with thermal management. Shelby’s performance hood adds carbon fiber air extraction topped with a painted ghost graphic. The aerodynamics attention carries through to weight reduction; carbon fiber shows up on the mirror caps, tail panel, and throughout the cabin.

Track-Ready Hardware

Power comes from a Whipple-supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote V8 pushing 830+ hp on 93-octane fuel, backed by Shelby’s Extreme Engine Cooling package and a high-efficiency intercooler. The transmission is a six-speed manual with a short-throw shifter, so no automatic option here. Extreme-duty halfshafts channel that output to a Trans Am-spec TruTrac limited-slip differential with its own remote pump and heat exchanger. Meanwhile, the fully adjustable Trans Am-spec coilover struts with remote reservoirs at all four corners give owners granular control over balance and setup. Pro-System Alcon Endurance brakes sit behind gloss-black Forgeline VX1S racing wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber built to Trans Am specifications. Inside, a TIG-welded chrome-moly four-point cage adds structural rigidity, complemented with carbon fiber trim and Shelby Performance leather seats.
