Electric sedans have hit a rough patch lately, and even Porsche isn’t immune. The Taycan, which was once the golden child of Stuttgart’s electric future, has become the brand’s slowest seller so far in 2025. So what’s a heritage automaker to do when its cutting-edge EV needs a boost? Paint it black and throw in everything customers actually want as standard equipment.
This is Porsche’s admission that buyers want value packages that eliminate the notorious option-picking game that can balloon a vehicle’s price into the stratosphere. Available across the Taycan, Taycan 4, and Taycan 4S variants, the Black Edition figured out a sensible approach to bundling desirable features.
Darkness Visible
Along with the black features, Porsche’s SportDesign package comes standard, adding aggressive front and rear fascias that give the Taycan a more planted stance. High-gloss black window surrounds, mirror caps, and rear badging create a cohesive dark theme, while the 21-inch wheels bring some contrast with silver faces against black accents. For some exclusivity with this variant alone, black side mirrors can only be had on Black Edition models and nowhere else in the Porsche lineup.
Inside features black embossed leather and illuminated “Black Edition” door sills that continue the theming while also looking very premium. The standard equipment list brings the greatest hits of Taycan options, including 14-way power seats with Porsche crests embossed in the headrests, Bose surround sound, surround-view cameras with active parking assist, HD Matrix LED headlights, and the puddle lights that project the Porsche logo.
What’s more is all of the brand’s “Shades” colors — Jet Black Metallic, Volcano Grey Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, and Ice Grey Metallic — come at no extra charge. And if you want something bolder, the entire Paint to Sample catalog remains available.
Performance Plus
Under the hood, every Black Edition gets the Performance Battery Plus as standard equipment, a 105-kWh pack that normally adds $5,780 to the bill. This gives you 318 miles for the base Taycan, 294 for the Taycan 4, and 295 for the 4S. The bigger battery also unlocks more performance. The base Taycan and Taycan 4 jump from 402 to 429hp, while the 4S sees a substantial boost from 536 to 590hp.
So Crazy It Just Might Work
While there’s no pricing info yet, it’s important to note that all of these features added à la carte to a base Taycan would push the price toward $130,000. If the Black Edition comes in meaningfully below that figure (say, around $125,000 for the base model), it will certainly accomplish its goal and perhaps even set a trend for the industry.
