Hennessey Turns the Silverado ZR2 Into a 700hp Off-Road Supertruck With the GOLIATH 700

For years, Chevy fans who wanted a serious off-road truck had a dilemma. The Silverado ZR2 was a highly-capable machine, one of the best factory off-road pickups on the market, but its 6.2-liter V8’s 420hp sat a few hundred horses short of the Ford Raptor R (720 hp) and the Ram TRX (777 hp). It was a great truck but lacked power, to say the least. Hennessey Performance, the Texas-based outfit that has spent 35 years making great trucks into legendary ones, just answered the call with the GOLIATH 700.

No Half Steps

John Hennessey started HPE in 1991 out of a garage near Houston, turning up import cars and Dodge Vipers before the world caught on. By the 2000s, twin-turbo Vipers were cracking 1,000hp and people started paying attention. Today, Hennessey operates out of its Sealy, Texas facility, complete with its own test track, and has upgraded over 14,000 vehicles. The Venom F5 hypercar, their in-house-designed 1,817-hp monster, shows the top end of what the company can do. But the GOLIATH 700 is something more practical, bringing real-world purpose to a truck you can actually drive.

Under the Hood

The upgrade centers on a twin-screw supercharger with air-to-water intercooling and Hennessey’s proprietary engine management calibration. The result is a 66% power increase, from 420 to 700hp at 5,500 rpm, with torque climbing from 460 to 611 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm. The 0-60 time drops from 5.6 to 4.2 seconds with 35-inch off-road tires still mounted. That’s supercar territory for something that can also serve as your work truck. The powertrain also features a stainless steel cat-back exhaust with black tips.

In terms of chassis upgrades, Hennessey bolts in a BDS suspension setup with new upper control arms while keeping the ZR2’s solid Multimatic DSSV spool-valve shocks integrated into the system.

Presence to Match

The GOLIATH earns its name visually, too. The factory hood applique gets swapped for a functional carbon fiber vent that actually improves engine-bay cooling as well. Carbon fiber also appears on the tailgate applique, while bespoke steel front and rear bumpers add clearance, attitude, and a 40-inch LED light bar. You also get three-inch off-road LED pods, a Hennessey-branded skid plate, and electronic power running boards.
