Ford’s Ranger Super Duty XLT Turns a Midsize Pickup Into a Legit Heavy-Duty Bruiser

Ford’s been playing in the midsize truck sandbox since 1983, but the Ranger Super Duty brings something different to the lineup. Unveiled earlier this year as a proper heavy-duty workhorse, it boasted cab-chassis configurations aimed squarely at commercial buyers who need to haul serious weight. Now, Ford Australia’s expanding the lineup with a Pick-Up body style and a new XLT trim that finally bridges the gap between workhorse and adventure vehicle.

Serious Capability Meets Real Comfort

An acronym for “Extra Luxurious Truck,” the XLT trim is the resurrection of a nameplate that’s been around since 1970. Back then, air conditioning and carpeted floors were rare in pickups. Today’s XLT carries that same middle-ground philosophy, stepping up from the base model without needing to pay luxury prices. For the Ranger Super Duty, that translates to leather-accented heated and ventilated seats, carpet flooring, all-weather mats, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Built Like a Proper Super Duty

The Ranger Super Duty XLT carries a nearly 10,000-pound towing capacity, matches that with the same in GVM, and pushes the Gross Combined Mass to 17,637lbs. That puts it in legitimate heavy-duty territory despite being built on Ford’s global T6 midsize platform. Under the hood sits a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 producing 207hp and 443lb.ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive with locking front and rear differentials.

For the chassis, Ford widened the track to 67.3″, reinforced the frame, and upgraded the suspension to handle the increased loads. Ground clearance gets a boost, the standard snorkel pushes wading depth to 33.5″, and the whole package sits atop beefier all-terrain rubber. It’s designed for Australia’s brutal Outback conditions, which means it’ll laugh at whatever North American trails you throw at it — if Ford ever decides to bring it stateside.

The Pick-Up Addition

The new Pick-Up body style adds a factory-fitted tub to the equation, which sounds obvious but wasn’t available when the Super Duty first launched. Previously, you had to go cab-chassis and add your own solution. Now there’s a proper bed from the factory, making it more accessible for retail buyers who don’t need a flatbed but still want heavy-duty ratings. The Pick-Up retains all the core specs, such as the same towing, same payload capability, and same rugged underpinnings.

Ford’s also rolling out Traction Green as a new color option, along with practical add-ons like an 8.9-inch digital rearview mirror, Aeroklas twin in-bed drawer systems, and various canopy configurations with lift-and-slide or dual-lift sides.

The Australia-Only Reality

For Stateside enthusiasts, the Ranger Super Duty is Australia-exclusive with no confirmed plans for export. Ford already sells the standard Ranger globally, including the U.S., so the bones are there. The Super Duty sits in this interesting middle space in that it’s more capable than a traditional midsize but less massive than a full-size HD truck.

Recap

2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty XLT Pick-Up Truck

Ford Australia just dropped a Pick-Up body style and XLT trim for the Ranger Super Duty, turning what started as a commercial-only workhorse into something that can actually handle weekend adventures without sacrificing its 10,000-pound towing capacity. It’s still Australia-exclusive, which is frustrating, but it fills a gap between traditional midsize trucks and full-size heavy-duty rigs.
