In terms of electric-powered vehicles, few things are held at greater value to the end consumer than the distance at which you can take that vehicle between charges or fill-ups. These days, it’s not uncommon to see fully electric cars in the high-300-, low-400-mile range. As for plug-in hybrids, this range increases, often to above 600 miles…for sedans and certain SUVs (largely from Toyota and Kia). However, when it comes to hybrid trucks, we’ve yet to see anything with a target range of well over 600…until now. RAM has announced a new best-in-class range with the game-changing 1500 Ramcharger for the 2025 model year.
Pairing its gas engine with a large 92kWh battery that powers dual electric motors — a 250kW in front and a 238kW in back — the upcoming Ramcharger will be capable of hitting a whopping 690 miles before needing to find another gas station. And while, by that time, you may be leagues away from the nearest pump, the pickup truck allows you more freedom, whether on your daily commute or off the grid. In terms of electric driving alone, you can get up to 145 miles estimated, with an extra 50 miles being tacked on with a 10-minute quick charge.
Because this thing is a plug-in hybrid — meaning, it’s heavily benefiting from electric power — you’ll get 663hp, 615lb.ft of torque, and an impressive 0-to-60 time that gets down to 4.4 seconds. Not to mention, you’re still getting a towing capacity of 14,000lbs and a payload of 2,625lbs. The interior tech is just as impressive with its 14.5-inch infotainment screen, a head-up display, a digital rearview, and a passenger display screen equipped with HDMI compatibility. If that’s not enough gadgetry for you, the truck lets your smartphone act as a key that you can use to actually drive your vehicle.
