Valentino Rossi is widely recognized as the greatest motorcycle racer of all time. Put simply, what Michael Jordan is to basketball, Wayne Gretzky is to hockey, and Tiger Woods is to golf, Rossi is to motorcycle racing. In a career that spanned over two decades racing at the highest level, the “Doctor” managed to rack up an unprecedented nine championship titles. After hanging up his leathers at the end of the 2021 MotoGP season, Rossi shifted his attention to racing on four wheels instead of two, where he proved to be just as fast, achieving lap times that were on par with seasoned pro drivers.

His abilities behind the wheel led to all manner of auto racing invitations, from testing Formula 1 cars to becoming an M Works driver for BMW where he’s helmed an M4 GT3 racer in GT World Challenge Europe and the FIA World Endurance Championship—including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As Valle now turns 46, BMW has opted to celebrate the MotoGP legend’s birthday with a limited run of ultra-high-spec M4 CS examples known as the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46.

The Basics

The M4 CS Edition VR46 is an exclusive limited edition BMW M model that takes an already top-of-the-line performance vehicle and sees it receive a slew of special details inspired by Rossi’s iconic motorcycle liveries and race leathers and helmet designs. What’s more, Rossi was also brought on board by BMW to help co-design his own limited-edition car.

Sport Or Style

Interestingly, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is actually being produced in two different versions. The first variant is known as the Sport model, which comes cloaked in a Marina Bay Blue metallic livery contrasted via massive 46 numbers done in the darker Tanzanite Blue metallic. Completing the package is an accent strip over the door frames painted in bright yellow. The second version is dubbed the Style model, which features a full-body finish in matte Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic that comes complemented via 46 numbers in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic on both sides.

Doctor-Inspired Details

Regardless of which version, both the Sport and Style variants of this elite limited edition feature a plethora of special touches inspired by Valentino Rossi’s iconic liveries and race leathers designs. This includes an M kidney grille framed in Rossi’s signature “Valle Yellow” hue, as well as brake calipers in the same color, and a tailgate sporting additional VR46 lettering. Both models also share an exposed carbon fiber roof adorned in a VR46 logo and a Valentino Rossi signature. There’s also a wealth of VR46 badges mounted on the M4 CS variant.

Valle-Approved Interior

The doors of the Edition VR46 open to reveal a race-inspired cabin that’s decked out in a host of special features and details. Trimmed in Night Blue upholstery, the interior features M Carbon bucket seats with yellow Alcantara shoulder areas and VR46 badges. You also get VR46 logos on the door sills, an Alcantara-wrapped three-spoke flat-bottom M steering wheel with Valle Yellow contrast stitching, and a carbon center console. The cabin also does a phenomenal job of taking direct inspiration from Rossi’s Dainese race suits with the dark blue upholstery juxtaposed by Valle Yellow accents.

M TwinPower Engine

Under the hood you’ll find an M TwinPower Turbo technology (i.e. twin-turbocharged) 3.0-liter inline-six engine bolted to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The motor cranks out an impressive 543hp and 479ft-lbs of torque, all of which is sent to the ground via the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and an Active M Differential.

Performance Capabilities

Thanks to the nearly 550hp and 480ft-lbs of torque that are on tap, the Edition VR46 M4 CS is capable of reaching 60mph from a complete standstill in as little as 3.2 seconds. Additionally, the car can also achieve a top speed of just under 190mph—or 188mph to be exact.

M-Grade Running Gear

In typical BMW Motorsport fashion, the company has laced this M4 CS variant up with its top-of-the-line M-spec components. Making the car just as ready for the racetrack as it is the open road, the M4 CS Edition VR46 comes fitted with Adaptive M Suspension front and rear, as well as top-shelf M Compound brakes at all four corners. The entire vehicle rides on a set of special forged lightweight alloy wheels — measuring 9.5” x 19” in front and 10.5” x 20” in back — that come shod in super sticky  275/35ZR19 and 285/30ZR20 track tires.

Included Extras

On top of the car itself, the vehicle’s six-figure MSRP also comes with some pretty noteworthy extras. This includes a super exclusive two-day experience in Italy where buyers are invited to Rossi’s personal ranch in his hometown of Tavullia, Italy, where they get to meet the legendary racer before spending a day at a special BMW M Driving Experience at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli – Rossi’s home track.

Why We Love It

As a longtime fan of MotoGP, Valentino Rossi, BMW M cars, and touring car racing, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is right up our alley. We also really like how BMW opted to make Rossi’s special edition the most high-end M4 CS ever built, and the fact they actually brought Valle in to help co-design the entire thing is another really cool touch. The direct connection between the limited edition car and the vehicle that Rossi pilots as an M Works driver is also really cool in our eyes. The icing on the cake is definitely the fact that the exorbitant price of the vehicle includes an invitation to Rossi’s legendary ranch, a meet and greet with the MotoGP legend, and a special track day at Rossi’s home track—all details that are as awesome as they are exclusive.
