Now offered on U.S. shores once again for the first time in just over half-a-century, the Toyota Crown is a popular mid-size luxury vehicle that first debuted all the way back in 1955. Despite first entering production nearly 70-years-ago, the Crown has just received what may be its most interesting and unique model variant to date in the form of the 2024 Toyota Crown Crossover RS “Landscape” — a factory-kitted, off-road-specific edition of the long-running luxury vehicle.

Though it may seem an odd choice to deliver a go-anywhere version of a road-going luxury model, the reality is that the Crown actually makes for a fairly practical off-roader. Thanks to being built on a newly-developed frame that’s based on Toyota’s GA-K platform, the Crown sports an overall ride height that’s almost 4” higher than that of the Camry’s, with the Crown boasting 5.8” of standard ground clearance. This normally affords the Crown better visibility and makes it easier to get in or out of, though in the case of the Crossover RS “Landscape” variant, it also gives it better all-terrain capabilities — especially when you add in this new trim’s extra 0.98” of ride height, bringing its total up to 6.78”.

Cloaked in a model-exclusive pale urban green livery contrasted via black accents and cladding, the Crown Crossover RS “Landscape” has also been bestowed with a specially-tuned, off-road-specific suspension to go with its increased ride height. More than just a factory-lifted version of an existing model, the Crossover RS Landscape-spec gains a host of additional off-road-focused features and amenities. Alongside an optional roof rack, this includes matte-finished bolt-on fender flares at all four corners, and a five-arm Y split-spoke aluminum wheel set shod in all-terrain tires. The Crown Crossover RS “Landscape” also comes loaded with a tow hitch, red mudflaps, and rear fog lamps, all as standard amenities. Even with its bolstered off-road prowess, the model still maintains the normal Crown’s luxurious interior and bevy of advanced tech.
