In late 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Land Rover introduced the motoring public to the all-new Range Rover L663 Defender — a fifth-generation unibody-based platform that marked for first completely redesigned Defender in over 35 years. Even more luxurious and capable than its fourth-gen predecessor, the latest Defender has been tweaked and upgraded for each new model year, culminating in the debut of the 2024 lineup, which is almost certainly the most noteworthy L663 Defender SUV model range to date.
Offered across a wide array of trim levels in 90, 110, and 130 models, the 2024 Defender lineup benefits from a host of small but meaningful updates and tweaks, both to the platform’s mechanics and aesthetics. The most significant news for the 2024 year lineup is undoubtedly the fact that the company is now offered a 493-hp supercharged P500 5.0-liter V8-powered eight-seater Defender 130. This same engine is also being offered in the Defender 110, which is also available with the company’s even more potent 518-hp supercharged P525 V8 — an engine that’s also an option for the 2024 Defender 90, alongside a 296-hp P300 inline-four and a 395-hp P400 straight-six.
Both the Defender 90 and Defender 110 are being produced in S, SE, X-Dynamic SE, V8, and Carpathian Edition trim levels (plus the 110 is sold in a special X-spec as well). The Defender 130 is also offered in S, X-Dynamic SE, X, and V8 versions, as well as in an all-new off-road-focused Outbound-spec model. Described by the manufacturer as being “the ultimate luxury explorer,” the Defender 130 Outbound is offered exclusively in a five-seat configuration that leaves ample room for supplies and gear, plus comes loaded with matte-finished bumpers and grille, a rear-mounted full-sized spare, a roof rack, the Defender’s signature side-mounted window storage box, a side ladder, all-terrain tires, and Electronic Air Suspension and Adaptive Dynamics — all as standard equipment.
Available for order now with a release scheduled for late 2023, the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Defender model range starts at $56,400 for the Defender 90 and goes up to $116,600 for the Defender 130 V8.
