Camping season is in full swing, and these days, with the rising popularity of Overlanding and camper vehicles, it’s not uncommon to see a variety of camping-friendly vehicles at your campsite rather than the traditional A-frame. Campervans, in particular, have been a historically popular choice for vehicle camping and are only getting more popular. Based on the Ford Transit, the Ford Nugget is a campervan that first hit the scene in 1986 and was developed in partnership with Westfalia. Last week, Ford announced the latest version of the Transit Custom Nugget camper, the 2024 Ford Transit Custom Nugget Camper Van with an electric powertrain.
This campervan comes equipped with Ford’s new vehicle platform, launching later this year, courtesy of Transit and Tourneo Custom. Westfalia is back in the mix again and was tasked with converting the vehicle, making it an ample living space capable of housing two double beds and designed for ease of movement. The streamlined cockpit features a 13” touchscreen, and the updated dashboard layout, along with the level floor, enhances accessibility between the front seats and the living area, simplifying movement.
The Nugget Titanium series (which features a tilted roof and the 170 PS EcoBlue engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission) will begin delivering in the spring of 2024, and the plug-in hybrid model will be coming within the next 12 months (marking the first ever PHEV powertrain in a Nugget). It uses a 2.5L Atkinson engine, an 11.8 kWh battery, and an electric motor to achieve 229 hp.
The 2024 Ford Transit Custom Nugget Camper Van is available to order from Ford dealers right now, and according to Autocar, “The Nugget is priced from €76,500 in Germany, suggesting an entry price of around £65,000 in the UK.”
