Toward the latter-end of 2020, Maserati announced an ambitious plan to release a growing number of fully-electric models under its upcoming Folgore (Italian for “lightning”) range. And after previously showing off images of what will be the Trident brand’s first EV model — the GranTurismo Folgore — Maserati has now pulled the cover off of another addition to the forthcoming Folgore family with its first electric SUV: the all-new Grecale crossover.
Getting its name from the North Italian term for a Mediterranean wind, the Grecale will be available in four different variants: the 300-hp four-cylinder mild-hybrid GT, the 330-hp four-cylinder mild-hybrid Modena, the sporty 530-hp MC20-derived 3.0L Nettuno V6-engined Trofeo, and the 400V fully-electric Grecale Folgore — Maserati’s first-ever all-electric SUV. Taking visual inspiration from the Italian automaker’s MC20 supercar, the Grecale boasts a sleek appearance and a slew of best-in-class features such as interior cargo room, driveability, handling, acceleration, and top speed — with the latter two accolades coming to be thanks to the Trofeo’s 3.6-second 0-60mph time and 177-mph max.
On top of a Vehicle Dynamic Control Module, the Grecale also gets five different drive modes comprised of Comfort, GT, Sport, Off-Road, and Corsa (Race) — the latter of which is only available on the top-of-the-line Trofeo-spec. Brimming with natural wood, leather, carbon fiber, and other high-end materials, the interior of the Grecale comes equipped with the Maserati Intelligent Assistant Multimedia system, along with an immersive 14-speaker (or 21-speaker) Sonus Faber 3D sound system.
While pricing and a full spec sheet have yet to be revealed, we do know that the GT, Modena, and Trofeo versions of the 2022 Maserati Grecale range will be available in the coming months, while the fully-electric Folgore-spec Grecale is slated for a release in 2023.
