While motocross (or MX) races are typically held on larger, longer, outdoor courses, supercross (or SX) competition is raced on markedly shorter, more technical circuits typically housed in arenas and indoor venues. As such, supercross racers require a more technical machine in order to negotiate the myriad of obstacles, corners, whoops, and jumps found on SX tracks — and that’s exactly what KTM has delivered for its latest range of supercross dirt bikes, a more refined, high-performance lineup engineered specifically for technical SX racing.
Comprised of a dozen different models in total, KTM’s latest supercross lineup includes everything from electric and micro-bore entry-level 50cc kids bikes to full, regulation-sized, 350 and 450 competition-spec four-stroke and fuel-injected two-stroke models. On the tech side, the new range gets two fuel maps, traction control, and a “roll-over” sensor to disable the bike after crashes, while shifting is also smoother than ever before thanks to an all-new five-speed PANKL Racing Systems transmission that comes with a quick-shift function that can be disabled. Each new SX model also boasts an all-new anti-squat frame design that’s been hydro-formed, laser-cut, and robot-welded.
Brembo brakes and WP XACT suspension — the latter of which can now be adjusted without requiring any tools — both come as standard as well. On top of sporting an electric starter, all 12 models in the lineup also come straight from the factory with Excel alloy wheel rims wrapped in Dunlop GEOMAX MX33 tires. Other noteworthy updates to the 2023 lineup include revised ergonomics that bring the rider in closer contact with the bike, new cylinder heads, a new number plate design, a Brembo hydraulic clutch, new CNC-machined triples, and a polyamide-reinforced aluminum subframe that weighs less than 4.5lbs.
Available now, the 2023 KTM SX two-stroke range starts at $6,849 for the 85 SX, $7,949 for the 125 SX, $8,949 for the 250 SX, and $9,199 for the 300 SX — though, KTM’s 2023 SX range also includes a handful of two-stroke models in kids sizes with 85cc, 65cc, and 50cc engines. The four-stroke models in the 2023 SX lineup start at $9,999 for the 250 SX-F and go up to $10,699 for the 350 SX-F and $10,899 for the 450 SX-F.
