First established in 1973, Caterham Cars is a boutique British automotive manufacturer with one foot planted firmly in the past. And while Caterham has extensively updated and modernized the powertrains and mechanics of its cars over the last 49 years, the appearance of its rides have gone largely unchanged over its nearly half-century-long history. And as the UK outfit now approaches its 50th anniversary, the company has opted to debut yet another updated iteration of its retro-styled flagship roadster with what’s been christened the Caterham Super Seven 2000.
The latest addition to Caterham’s Heritage lineup, the new Super Seven 2000 maintains the appearance of the company’s vintage roadster model while gaining a slew of modern performance updates. At the heart of the Super 7 2K is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ford Duratec engine that’s mated to a manual five-speed transmission and cranks out 180hp — enough oomph to rocket the car from 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds and to reach a top speed of 130mph. Available with the buyer’s choice of a standard or large chassis, the newest Super 7 model also gets a road suspension pack, dual-piston calipers, 14” Classic Alloy wheels, flared front wings, a full windscreen, a meshed grille, a chrome filler cap, LED taillights, a polished exhaust, and a spare wheel and carrier — all as standard.
The Super Seven 2000’s cabin also boasts a heater, fluted black leather seats with three-point seat belts, a black vinyl tunnel top, SMITHS gauges, and a black leather Moto-Lita steering wheel. Available in 15 different color options, the Super 7 2K is also offered with a generous slew of optional add-ons including a limited-slip differential, multiple upgraded wheel options, side screen armrests, a wooden-rimmed steering wheel, lowered floors, classic front cycle wings, ventilated brake discs with four-pot calipers, and an adjustable Sport suspension package with a rear anti-roll bar, just to name a but a few.
Slated for a release in the coming weeks, the 2023 Caterham Cars Super Seven 2000 has been priced at £39,990 (~ $45,025). Available on U.S. shores, the Super Seven 2000 will also be offered as a kit car or as a complete turnkey model. Alongside the more performance-leaning Super Seven 2000, Caterham has also debuted the Super Seven 600, a more relaxed roadster powered by a Suzuki-sourced 84-hp turbocharged 660cc triple — that won’t be sold in America).
